Looking to get some gloves - any advice?

Hi All,

I'm heading to tignes towards the end of March and have been looking to get some gloves, I dont want to spend a fortune, but want something decent.

I really want something that is going to be warm and dry, a storage zip in the glove would be preferable but I am not that fussy. I will just be using them for general snowboard use as I am just a novice-intermediate border.

I have been looking a fair bit into the Dakine range, two types of gloves I have my eye on are the Dakine Bronco and the Dakine Titan. I am leaing towards the Titan but have a bit of a question mark on the removable lining, heard gloves that have a removable lining arent that good.

So if anyone has an opinion on either of those gloves or something else I should consider then please feel free to write back.

Thanks

I love the look of the broncos. I wouldn't buy gloves without trying them on though. As long as they tick the right boxes, insulation wise, etc, go for the one that feels the best.

I am guessing being waterproof is the minimum requirement especially for a boarder. Can't help you out with your specific gloves but I have had a few pairs of Hestra gloves now and would never use anything else. Brand loyalty and all that. I have the Army Leather Short XCR and they are excellent. Probably a little more than you want to spend though.

nothing but Hestra for me either. They last me three years or so.

but, only the pro' range, the normal range are just normal.

Pablo,

Lost my Hestra XCR gloves in Jan. Great gloves - breathability means they don't hold on to sweat so when things cool down, you don't freeze. Would go for anything (almost)with Gortex XCR.
Looking to get some gloves - any advice?

I'm also thinking about getting some new gloves. I have a pair of Reusch leather gloves which are great when its cold, but I could do with a thinner pair for warmer weather. I have previously just used mountain biking gloves, as I dont tend to suffer from cold hands. But I'd prefer something waterproof really - if that's possible. I've been looking at this website http://www.backcountry.com/store/group/272/Ski-Gloves.html#app=price%7E+group%7E272+brand%7E+sortby%7E+cat%7E11+subcat%7E100000008+offset%7E-1+on_sale%7E+page_name%7ESki-Gloves for inspiration. But the thinner gloves seem be quite short, which I dont really want. Thanks in advance. And sorry if i've hijacked the thread a bit!
Re:Looking to get some gloves - any advice?

I noticed my ski instructor was wearing 2 pairs of gloves, an inner and a waterproof outer pair.

And, incidentally, my other ski instructor seemed to have electrical boot warmers - I wondered what he was doing to start with, adjusting electrical controls on his boots - like was he bionic or what?

Ally

Re:Looking to get some gloves - any advice?

All the top brands make some great gloves. I have some Marmot Ultimate that are great down to about 25F(I get cold hands really easy!). Below that, I now use Mountain Hardwear Alpinist mitts. I am regularly tempted to buy some Hestra, but I have so many gloves now that I can't possibly justify it! :) I, also, have some Dakine Cobra that I wear when it's not to cold, or wet. They seem to be pretty well made. Full leather takes a while to dry if you are putting your hands in the snow a lot. . .

Mexicomark, I would suggest you check out some of the Arc'teryx gloves. They are quite nice for warmer weather. I have the Hardface, but they aren't waterproof. Also, the North Face Pamir is a great windstopper fleece with more length in the wrist. Price isn't bad if you can find it on sale.
