When in Switzerland I have tried the wine and very good it has been too, but I found this beer site and I wondered if any
of you boys and girls out there could recommend some of the Weiss beers, now I'm not a total idiot about weiss beer as in a passed life I used to sell
them for a living so I'm not looking to be educated but advised. Over to you connoisseurs 8)

I like that Rugen or Rugler or Rugli stuff from Interlaken. Also Feldschloss from Lucerne has proved to be very drinkable.

None of it, of course, is as good as Weston's vintage perry from Much Marcle.

I'm amazed on how many holy convents with beer brewing monks seem to exist in Switzerland.

personally I'd be amazed at any monks in a convent whether they're brewing beer or not :lol:

They sell Hobgoblin at our little country store here in Kamloops. My brothers favorite beer. :-)

I like Brit beer better than our Canadian brew..love the dark beer. :thumbup:..but I only drink 1 or 2 at a time..when I do drink beer.

Cor Blimey! Will have to save the pennies up for a trip. But drinking two at a time is a bit hardcore for me. :D

ya Im more of a wine,gin or martini girl (note-not all together :D) ....but that always hurts me too much...think I should stick to water ha ha ha :lol:

I seem to remember getting very tipsy very quickly on a particular beer in Val D'isere. Think it was called Mutzig or something. Was later informed it was about 8%!!! :wink:

Anyone else had this brew?

Speaking from experience - having worked in a brewery (Inveralmond) and having judged a few beer festivals in my time, I would have to say the best beer is the free one.

Re Bandit's comment - I spent a very enjoyable summer working in France and Pelforth Brune (sp?) was the beer of choice. though locals were a bit bemused by us drinking it as it was seen then - dunno about now - as an old fellers' beer. Bit like a milk stout here, I guess.

Mutzig does some real liver-whackers but the standard brew is very, er, standard

BUT this isn't getting the job done of helping Wickers with his weiss-beer appreciation. I have to say I prefer the filtered, 'crystal' versions as opposed to the cloudy 'hefeweiss'; not sure there is much taste difference, never having lined them up for a taste test, but all that cloudiness just screams 'monster hangover' to me.

Beer of preference: the really fresh, crisp 'kolsch' type beers from Cologne... mmmm... and a Lowenbrau in Munich... must leave this thought or the afternoon will end abruptly with me going to the pub.

It's a loverly pic and I'm sure it tastes great but I'm going to Switzerland not Austria :mrgreen:

Some of the better ones I have tasted have come from the Munich area, I do enjoy both the Heffe and the Crystal types, I'll report back on the tastings next week :shock: :shock:

Simple answer I'm in Switzerland so I would like to drink Swiss wine or beer, I do that with a lot of countries that I travel to, Fly the flag Swiss Beer rules, I hope :thumbup: :thumbup:

right tips guys n gals, at home i drink bitter, lager makes me shout for huey, anyway who can recommend a decent bitter sort of drink in austria, ? i tend to end up having martini and lemonade instead of wastinf money trying everything
