Uvex F1 Magic Ski Googles

Morning all.

Has anyone had experience of the above ?
The ability to be able to change the shade setting at the push of a button would appear to be the answer to all our woes :D

Re:Uvex F1 Magic Ski Googles

Oooo excellent idea and interesting technology but two main problems at the moment...

- That price ($200!) will get you two pairs of top quality goggles... or some decent frames and 2 or 3 lenses, for example.

- The lens is cylindrical rather than spherical (I'd assume that's a current limit of the LC technology?).

So wait for the Mk2, sensibly-priced and spherical lens version I reckon...

...now if they added auto light sensing that would be cool - imagine skiing down a sunlit run and then into shade through the trees and having your goggles react instantly to the change in light...

Re:Uvex F1 Magic Ski Googles

Had a mailer through about them at the start of the season, they did seem to be pretty cool, but then you can't believe everything you get in a press release... they declined to send me a pair for review...

Also Pablo has a point about cost and early-adoption - give it two years and Happy Shopper will have a version out.

The company might fiddle about with frame design, but this lens seems quite a departure, and frankly I'm sceptical.

Over to you :D

Re:Uvex F1 Magic Ski Googles

Bandit, seeing as you replied soo politely,I can comment.
I understand your reluctance to embrace new technology and, after all,the likes of Oakley do indeed make a quality ,PROVEN product.Obviously you are welcome to visit the Uvex website, but my guess is that would'nt suit.My friend just back from Beaver Creek first spotted them in,I think ,2006,and was convinced by the local skiers to try them.In Beaver Creek there is a dedicated Skiglasses/goggle shop who allow you to try before you buy. This,of course,he did.Loved them and immediately bought a pair for himself and his wife. And this is a guy who swore by Oakleys. Also go to about.com and read the review there. The technology eminated from the US Airforce.

Cheers

David

Re:Uvex F1 Magic Ski Googles

Right, I have been and looked around on the web with a google search, and not many of my concerns have been answered with the information that's out there. These goggles appear to have been around for a while and seem to have been last years' (or possibly the year before) "must have" gadget. Comments from users seem to be a bit thin, apart from 1 comment on aboutdotcom, and I suspect he's a journalist, so FAIK he's been paid to wax lyrical about them.

My concerns do not stem from being reluctant to embrace new technology. Right now I don't feel the need to have my goggles powered by a 6 volt battery. :D
