J2Ski - who are yer ?

I found the J2SKI site a few months ago and as a relatively new skier have found the site very informative and the banter very entertaining, although have felt, at times that I am 'ear-holing' on private conversations between the 'regular' contributors.
I have often wondered when the site was set up, who runs/censors it, and 'who are yer?' - admin - Ian Wickham - Tony H - RossF - bandit - Pablo Escobar - Nelly PS - caron-a - ise - tino_11 - Rose R - Trencher - et al - cos you all seem to be posting throughout the day and don't appear to have proper jobs !
Re:J2Ski - who are yer ?

I am RossF and Pablo Escobar and Admin, I have nothing better to do as I am currently timetabled for 7 hours of University a week, as all my friends and family have real jobs/lots of uni to do so during the day when I should be reading books as thick as my arm I dabble on this.

I don't work apart from a little bit of instructing up north when it snows! Trying to fulfill every student stereotype possible. It also rains a lot in Scotland. I also struggle not to post if I see something that provokes a thought in my head.. so usually I just post it anyways (on topic or otherwise)

Generally we are just folks that can't get enough of skiing.

(we could keep this to one post a head and have a bit of an 'about me' section?!)

Edit 4: I have never met any one from the internet

I've only been on here for a matter of weeks and have become totally addicted (see time of post), I do have a job (believe it or not) and am currently sat at my desk where I really should be doing something more constructive, but I'm in early and don't officially need to do anything until 9am, so what do I do? I come on here and find that I'm included in post that suggests I'm on here all day

Re:J2Ski - who are yer ?

I do have a proper job, Pharmacist in a large national store. Work 5 long days a week. I do lots of CPD, extra study at my computer but always manage to find time to switch over to here. I have a very large garden and allotment which most of my days off I am doing something to. As to-days backache will testify. I am a relative newbie to snow sports so all my info and banter comes from here. In fact I have even started to log on before I go to work each day. So thats me really.

Re:J2Ski - who are yer ?

I am also a student like Ross, and am in Sheffield. I started skiing when I was 13 and am now 22. I ski 3 hours on a monday night at the ski village doing race practice and then every other weekend at different places and try to do at least 2 weeks a year on snow.

Although my post count is relatively modest, I also spend a lot of time just trying to keep up with what is happening on the other posts.

I had a 'proper' job last year for my placement year, but still found plenty of time to keep tabs on the forum.

Tom

I live in London and work from home. I use the internet for my job, so I have a legitimate reason to be on here ) (wonders if boss will agree...)
We started skiing 2 years ago as we wanted our daughter to learn young. I'm not revealing our ages, but it's been over 20 years since I graduated and my OH longer than that
As we're such beginners, I like to hear what other people's experiences are. This forum has lots of friendly people who don't make you feel silly for asking questions.
Allie
oooo, I love threads like this :D

I work every morning with/for my husband doing admin/accounts. On top of that I'm a wife, mum, cleaner, washer woman, ironing lady, chef, chauffeur, yada, yada, yada. I come on here in between to break it up and then when I've got time I do power yoga. I also love my mates, music, sport, travelling and, most importantly, skiing.

Tada!

I found this site just over a year ago when looking for advice on my knee troubles and I've never looked back, they're a swell bunch!
J2Ski - who are yer ?

Hello Brandyaitch - I may not be one of the 'in' crowd but I find this site very helpful and friendly and genuine! If you ask a question, you wil get a helpful reply without all the sarky comments/over-opinionated claptrap - see Daved's previous remarks! Personally, my husband and I are both well into our fifties and have only been skiing for about 15 years - but love it and want to do as much as we can while we can - money and health permitting. Kids have left home, paid off the mortgage, no pets left now so we go off on bargain deals at short notice! It's a hard life but someone has to do it.

I'm also a student, though am in the final year of a chemistry PhD so work crazy hours and spend most of my life in a lab surrounded by evil and smelly chemicals.

I found this site by accident last summer (filling in time between experiments when I should have been doing something constructive) and now spend way too much time on here reading everyones' posts and occasionally replying when I get round to it!! )

When not stuck in a lab (or away skiing), I spend every spare moment at the stables with my gorgeous horse, Max (the main ‘man in my life', as my exasperated husband will testify!)

Failing that, I love cooking (made a very tasty batch of chocolate and cherry brownies and a lemon cake this weekend), eating chocolate (preferably Lindt or Thornton's), drinking red wine or curling up with a good book. :D
Hello, I'm Ian a pain in the arse, I work in retail management and I am married to Mrs W and have one child Little W age 7...... Interests the mountains, skiing, football and really most sports and spending as much time as I possibly can with my wife and little one. Dislikes, Tour operators because I can do a better job, Drunks on holiday, shouldn't be allowed to travel, people who talk very loudly especially on mobile phones, they should have them confiscated, and people in restaurants who again seem to want the whole restaurant to hear their conversation. And anyone else who has a differing opinion to mine.

Hi, I'm relatively new too and have a job that keeps me busy all day, but the first thing I do when I get home is login to this forum. I led everyone at home to believe that I was working on my laptop but I have recently been rumbled! (See 'On the Piste' thread). I've been skiing since I was 11 and my oh has been doing it for 4 years. I have three grown up (in age) sons who can all ski pretty well. I do not have a horse or a motor bike but I have my own skis and I love them.

Hello.

I am a chartered scientist living on the south coast of England so need to get away to find snow. Usually cheaper to head south rather than back to the homeland. I also get my German fix that way.

I live in North Nottinghamshire (come on amanda n - it's not so bad, some of the poor beggers on here live in the mountains & go skiing every day!). I work as a physio assistant with a great bunch of people who make me laugh every day. I also do a bit of part-time work at a water sports centre - to earn extra cash to pay for my skiing holiday(s).

We are currently redecorating our house as we want to sell it & OH thinks I'm researching 'ceiling lights' at the moment. I have a 10 year old who can ski better than me.....& he enjoys telling me so. He says I'd be better if I went faster

We love camping & spend as much time as we can in North Norfolk sailing our Swift 18 & generally messing about in boats (& mud). I have a fantastic fantasy world in my head where I spend quite a lot of my time & I enjoy making (& eating) chocolate cakes :D

I wish I'd had the opportunity to ski from an early age - but I intend to make up for it & ski until I'm a very old lady!

I'm a newbie on here too and have become a regualar addict.

I'm originally a midlander Amanda - not lived there for some time though. Now live in Hampshire with my hubby who has 2 children, they spend a fair amount of time with us, are nearly 10 and 13 - we are incredibly selfish in not taking the children skiing as they aren't interested at the moment, even though we ask them on a regular basis. My step daughter seems to think she can go on a skiing holiday and go swimming all day, every day :?:

I work at an architects as a secretary and spend most of my spare time on here much to the annoyance of my husband.

I spent much of my late teens and 20s working in ski resorts in France and Austria, I'm a big fan of skiing and boarding, although have recently reverted back to skiing after 12 years of boarding, now I'm a retired seasonaire I've joined the ranks of 'punters' on annual ski trips which I spend all year looking forward to.

If I win the lottery I'll take you all to my chalet for a big knees up.

What a fascinating thread - having started the process I aught to add a bit more about me. I am 61, married 37 years, live in Worthing, one son Jim, one dog - Cocker Spaniel - Cody. I retired in July 2007, and lucky me, with a public sector pension and lump sum, which, I have told the wife, I am now 'investing' in skiing (much better return in pleasure than a miserly 1%)). Long before Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freedman's Bucket List I had knocked up my list of things to do and places to go on retirement. Top of the list was skiing but I wasn't sure whether or how I could get started at 60 and who I could go with. Jim took sympathy on me and invited the 'old fart' to La Plagne with 3 of his mates, and now I am hooked. Got invited to Meribel last year with a chalet group of 16 thirtysomethings, (that was an eyeopener !!) and another group of 16 to St Anton in January this year and now planning a second trip in March. The J2SKI responses to my questions on St Anton were invaluable. Like many others have commented, I am also addicted to this site - is there a J2SKI Anonomous therapy session available to help we poor souls ?

I'll play this game too! Especially since I see there may be a Pavel Quiz in the near future. Ohhhh sleepless nights ... they are returning :!:

I'm a wannabe great skier. Right now I can get down the hill in tact. I have only discovered skiing within the last 9 years; so I have a lot of catching up to do. Usually I only get about 15 ski days a year. So far this year I have 13 so I may hit 20 if the weather co-operates. (And I count every run....) Or better stated ... I make every run count!

On the work side of life, I'm a self employed mechanical engineer/consultant involved in the areas of machine design and hydraulic systems.

Home is near Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada ... you know -- the land of Peggy's Cove and the Bluenose. What? you didn't know that

Mike

LM, Don't you have King Crab on the west coast? Somewhat similar?

Sending lobster would be like sending a block of gold. Do you think either would make it?
Mike
