Ski carriage

Looking to sell some skis on eBay, they are around 180cm long so the package will come in at around 190cm.
The problem is that all the carriers that I have tried will only take packages up to 150cm. There are many seller of long skis on eBay with reasonable carriage costs so does anyone have any experience of shipping this type of item and what courier / costs were involved.

Thanks

Mark
Re:Ski carriage

Hi Mark,

It is well annoying that the post office dont take skis. I was also quoted GBP45 by DHL to ship them in england.
I have sold 4 sets of skis over the years on 'the bay' and now just use local couriers. They have all charged around GBP15 and most have online forms you just fill in. These local firms have always collected and delivered on time and have pretty good customer service (ring if they are late etc). Just google 'courier + ......' to find your nearest ones.

Tom

Re:Ski carriage

I have sold a few pairs of skis on ebay. The main issue for me was that the big courier companies won't deal with you (unless you have a business account with them). Yellow Pages and google to the rescue. I found a little courier co. who ordered a pickup from one of the big companies to collect my sale. Quite a good price too, and no messing around with size limits.

Re:Ski carriage

Hi Mark,

I recently sold two snowboards and both packages were approx 190cm with all the padding and boxes.

I got a good deal with these guys... http://www.interparcel.com/quote/

You put in where its going and the dimensions of all the packaging and it searches the cheapest couriers for you, it includes the likes of DHL, TNT, UPS etc.

A quick word of warning if you're selling on Ebay put a note on stating that the postage will be more to the Highlands and non mainland postcodes. It cost me under GBP15 to send inland UK but nearly GBP40 to send to Inverness. Wouldn't want you get caught out after they've sold.

Hope this helps you

Clare :-)

Re:Ski carriage

It cost me GBP40 for skis shipped from Nottingham to G84 (not quite highlands..) insured to GBP1100. It was GBP20 without the insurance.

If you are looking at DHL (who are often pretty cheap) look at Fast Lane International as they are agents for DHL and often work out a whole bunch cheaper.
