Hi, can anyone give me any idea about how good (or bad) the snow might be in this resort for ski trip booked for departure 21/3. it will be only our second ski trip, we went to Romania last year and it was really good, booked originally for 28th feb this year, thought i would try to improve my pathetic attempts fell and broke my wrist. now unsure if i have left it late for good snow. :( thanks.

I've just had a snow report from this site and it seems they're expecting fresh snow in Niederau next week. Have a look by clicking the snow report tab at the top of the page. Regulars to this forum (see Niederau threads) have assured me that the snow usually lasts well into March.
We're going on the 28th - can't wait!

Hi Allie, thanks for reply hope you have a good time, let me know how you go on. although i am really looking forward to our dept on the 21/3 still worried re snow. i have no idea what people do if the snow is not good. one of my fears is that the (nursery) slopes might be icy. anyway hey-ho we will see. take care, mal.

Angeltop, I have skied the past three seasons at the season end, (end of March) each year, we have left Niederau, Gondola closed, with a completely white mountain.

You do have to understand that with March skiing, the best skiing is early morning to mid-afternoon. If you have some experience, there are two runs at the top of the mountain that usually retain good quality snow until the season end.

This year the Niederau season ends on the 29th March, after which Niederau-based folk will catch the ski bus to Auffach, where the lift system remains open for another couple of weeks.

Sad to say, I wil miss you by three days, I head home on the 18 March. Unless of course there is a big snow dump, and subsequent pleading phone calls to my OH!

2 weeks and counting ! I am soooooooooo excited now ! The snow in Niederau looks fabulous and lots more to come next week ! Think I might just go and get the wax out now ive seen some recent pics !! Its set me off AND im watching some skiing on the tele ...... roll ON March 7th !

have just seen the snow reports and looking good for niederau!

160cm at the top, more snow forecast all week! cant wait, im due there next sat 28th :)

Any J2Skiiers there week beginning 7th March, Me & the man ( and the little `un ) will be staying at the Austria, The little `un is 9 yrs old and looking for some "mates". He is snowboarding and skiing..( for now with Grandma and grandad..anyone out there with young lads give me a shout...Hes a lovely lad..very sociable....loves skiing/wrestling/snowboarding..( allegedly,,,, the snowboarding,he hasn`t tried it yet ) !!

Me and the old guy are soooooooo looking forward to loads of fun,,we have skiied a few blacks in LAKE LOUISE and to be honest,,,most of Europe,Canada and the USA..i.e. Stowe,Tahoe..etc. However...we do really feel that things in life happen for good reasons....we lost our original booking for Canada when XL airlines went kaput. So, we decided to go back to our roots.We learned to ski many moons ago in OBERAU.The ski instructors were brilliant, and thats where we began.

Now its time for our "Little `un" to tread in his granparents footsteps...but a few youngsters around will help. ( mainly to give me and grandad time to hit the bar ) )Just kidding..it doesnt do to be drunk in charge of a mad 9 year old !!

Looking forward to seeing all any any from here...just yell AVA !! I will be there !

Hi Amanda,hehe it does rather sound like im hiring him out doesnt it ?? Its his frst time skiing mountains,he learned at the Tamworth snowdome and hes pretty good. God only knows how he will do on a snowboard !! It will be a hoot watching him im sure !!

Am I right that you and your man hang out in Bobos for apres, Skigirl? Just that I saw your photo with Michael Unger. I don't really apres in the village, it's the wrong end of town for me. I normally have last drink at the mountain top, & then ski down to the top end of the village.

Prepared to make an exception though, to meet up with a J2skier. :-)

we just got back from niederau today. On Tuesday it dumped about 2 foot, then it was also snowing on Thursday, all day Friday and Saturday when we left. I am sure you will have lots of fun. have a good holiday

Thanks karen72, the snow looks fab on Jan's webcam. Dave Mac, no we don't go into Bobo's that much, not at all in January in fact. Usually the Sports Bar, especially this year as Gunther was our instructor. Who is Michael Unger, by the way :?:

thank you all for replies, i will keep watching the snow reports. have had plaster cast off arm today so i have just over three wks to regain all movement (a bit stiff at present). have a lovely time everyone who is due out shortly. i am going back into complete beginners ski school husband did better than me last year so is going into improvers class. can't wait and let that snow keep falling. mal

snow forecasts have been just perfect! speaking of bars and pubs, is there many good ones in niederau? I shall certainly be trying out the Irish bar to check how authentic it is haha (spent most of my life in ireland).

The Cave Bar is prob the only place - go down the road beside the Hotel Austria toward the Hotel Staffler and just as you start to turn the corner the door to the Cave Bar is there. The Sports Cafe gets fairly mad sometimes so its good for before dinner. :) Only one more day to go!

blod's done it again: she's booked us on a flight out to munich (lufthansa, GBP95 return) for niederau on saturday february 12th 2010. so new year and feb half term all sewn up!
have just had internet connectd at new gaff, so shpould now be able to follow threads once again.
good snow in N, eh?!!!!!!!!! L.
