Skiing In England
Hello, this is my first post on the forum.

For the last 20 years I have been skiing at an outdoor ski slope at Middleton In Teesdale, Co Durham. It's very make shift with a drag rope to get you to the top. The slope is roughly 600m long, with a small hut at the bottom to have a packed lunch.

Due to the lack of snow in the last few years the ski club has started to struggle financialy and will shut down in the next year or two without a couple of good weekends. It ran for 1 day back in December which was a fantastic blue sky days skiing. Your lift pass is only GBP10.

If anyone would like to join us for a days skiing on Saturday or Sunday then let me know and I will post some directions.

Please see the link below:

http://www.snowlion.freeuk.com/harwood.html

Skiing In England

I would have come over as its not too far for us, but we are mainly beginners and do not have our own equipment. I saw a clipit on the local news a couple weeks ago and thought what a good idea but when i looked into it, we needed our own stuff. pity, but if we ever buy our stuff and it snows here in Durham, we will come accross.

Karen

Charlie26, not sure what the snow is like at the moment. I do know that my pal lives about half an hour down hill from the ski area and he says that they have stacks of snow. The ski area has snow fences to keep the snow on the runs, so I have no hesitation in saying that they will have more than enough. Last time they opened the quad they have got stuck in the snow, that was from the snow we had a month or two ago. The weather forecast looks good both Sat and Sun.

Let me know if you fancy it.

I guess the ski area is about 50 - 60 mins from junction (i think) 56 of the A1.

Re:Skiing In England
Yeah that is right, you do have to walk before you ski. You can see the ski run from the road but be prepared for more than a gentle walk. Think of it as a warm up!

The roads are generally clear. Durham council have a snow blower machine that cuts through snow when it's really deep. I have seen it drift in places deeper than the car as it is very exposed. I must admit that I haven't seen it like that in a few years. Fingers crossed that it will be like that this weekend.

Re:Skiing In England

Very tempted to give it a go on Sunday, 'though not sure if my Ford Fiesta will cope if the roads are a bit iffy. :D

I'll maybe keep an eye on the weather forecast before making a decision.

Skiing In England

There are quite a few well-organised ski areas in the north of England (Lake District, Allenheads, Yad Moss and Carlisle) and all of them have updated websites, webcams, weather reports etc.

And today I have just added a new run: the back hill from Summer Street down to the Slad Valley, just outside Stroud, Glos.

Quite a hike up - but a real laugh ski-ing past the sledgers!
