How easy to get around Les Arcs

Hi Everyone,
Joined the site a while back, but this is first time I've posted. Going to Les Arc at end of the month. Never been there before and wondered if anyone who knows that area can tell me how easy it is to get around the 3 valleys. I'm going with my daughter and so will be the lead ski trying to find our way around. She wants to go to visit a friend in Val D'Isere, but I believe we'd need to bus it there.

Hi there

Welcome to the site.

sorry I dont really know a lot (ok, i know nothing lol( about les arcs or france but thought i would welcome you.

By the way I notice you posted this in ski chatter. you might get a better response posting it in the France section.

JonG knows a lot about the area and is very helpful.

Enjoy your trip

Karen

Re:Newbie

 :DHi Eljay,

Welcome to the forum ,you will have a great time in Les Arcs..one of the alps under used gems.Which part of the area are you staying in 1600,1800,1950 or 2000?.

There are free ski buses linking all the area/resorts and of course ll can be reached via skis/boards.I am a little unsure as to whether the resort bus service goes from one of these to Val D'isere (as I have an apartment in Bourg-Saint-Maurice so not something I would need to think about) but you can easily catch a ski bus/coach to Val from the train/bus station in BsM which is a short walk from the bottom of the funicular down from Arc 1600.

If you are travelling to Les Arcs via fly /drive option then Val can be reached in about 50 mins from Les Arcs ( but would avoid doing this on a saturday at all cost unless you go early in the morning as the road up to Val is the only road servicing the resorts in the area and can be rammed with traffic)...after taking the road down from Les Arcs you come out next to the hydro-electric power station, if you follow the road round to the left this takes you into Bourg and at the round about near SuperU & Intermarche you will need the first exit this takes you onto the road through Seez ,when exiting Seez there is a forked junction ,take the right fork and just follow the road all the way to Val without turning off at anytime.

There is a short cut from the hydro-electric station to cut out the SuperU round about - from the bottom of the road from Les Arcs next just pass the station there is a turning to the right if you take this and follow it round this brings you out onto a round about at the beginning of Seez, again take the first exit through Seez and again at the other end take the right fork and follow the road all the way to Val.

If you are self catering I would suggest doing you're shopping in Bourg as near the bottom of the funicular station ,located on the main road just up from the petrol station is a Lidl's,also at the other end of town if the 15 minute or so walk from the funicular isn't a worry is SuperU & Intermarche ,shopping at one of these will prove better value than shopping in the resort supermarkets/shops.

In the area also are the resorts of La Rosiere ,Sainte-Foy ,Val & Tignes and at the bottom end of the main valley accessed via Moutiers are the Trois Vallee's resorts of Meribel ,Courcheval and Val Thorens all can be reached via bus for a days skiing if you don't mind getting up at the crack of dawn and a good bus ride ,La Plagne is covered on the Paradiski lift pass and can be added in full if you think you will make more than one trip there ,or as a one day add on to the normal Les Arcs/Peisey Vallandry Pass.

I hope some of this helps in some way ,and if you like send me you're postal details via the private messages facility and i will be glad to send you some info and a lift pass for the Paradiski ski area ,with lift pass price info etc.

All the best :D :D

JonG

Re:How easy to get around Les Arcs

Hi,

Jon's right as always. I've driven to the 3 valleys twice from Les Arcs, less than an hour by car. I went to Courchevel 1300 via Moutiers, free parking then gondola to 1850/ 3 Valleys. Val D-Isere/ Tignes (Espace Killy) is a little closer.
Take your Paradiski pass to any ticket office in Les Arcs and ask for a day pass to 3 Valleys/ Espace Killy and they'll give you one for free.
Thanks so much for all the info. I'll need to go back and read it a few times to take it all in. When you've never been somewhere before, it's hard to imagine the geography
It's a package deal and we are staying in a catered chalet in 2000. The Val D'Isere trip is something my daughter would like to do as one of her friends is working there for the season. So will try to make that happen.
Eljay

Re:How easy to get around Les Arcs

Yes, do go to Ste Foy. We went last year and loved it. It's a very sweet little town.

However, not so good as a base for long-range skiing. We were glad we had the car and could travel to other resorts when we'd exhausted the local slopes. Have fun!

PS It probably won't stay sweet and little if everyone keeps posting favourable messages!!

Re:How easy to get around Les Arcs

 :DHi ,

I agree ,Ste-Foy used to be one of the best kept secrets in the alps,I can remember going there when it was just a couple of farm houses ,chalets and the restaurants on the slopes with the large old farmhouse at the bottom, (Chez leon on the slopes is fab).

Also they had just started to build the main complex so it was only a matter of time before the word got out....but there again all of us go for the same reasons for great skiing ,great food and friendships made that will stand the test of time. :D :D

Go and enjoy this gem of a place you will not be dissapointed :D :D

Have a great time and a safe journey.

Must dash Chemmy Alcott is skiing 13th on first leg of the combined

Jon.

I presume it will be easy enough for us to find our way there from Les Arc. Remember I'm blonde, over 40 and never had to be the one to read the piste map before!

Re:How easy to get around Les Arcs

Hi,

No worries ,you should be able to pick up a shuttle bus in Les Arcs ,or fail in that there is a shuttle bus that can be found at the train/bus station in Bourg-Saint-Maurice.

The small shuttle buses are white with yellow/blue writing ,also autocars-martin make the trip aswell, they to can be found at the train/bus station in BsM.

The Ste-Foy tourist info link is below.

http://www.saintefoy-tarentaise.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=192&Itemid=164

Many Regards

Jon.
