sat looking out window in east midlands and it's snowing got about a 3rd of a mm at mo but praying for 6ft!!! anyone else got the white stuff floating down where you are?

Snowing a lot here in London...about two/three inches at the moment.

The cat is so excited, he is chasing snowflakes and doesn't know which way to run! He was rolling around and around in it earlier. :shock:

As soon as I got to calais yesterday afternoon it started to snow and did not stop till we reached snowy Norwich,
good old blighty two inches of snow everything stops, roads full of cars wanting to drive at twenty miles an hour
and motorway signs advertising " Gritting in progress " we saw three between the channel tunnel and Norwich, still thats why we pay our council tax for.

In was in central London last night and it was blizzard but decided to chance it back to Sheffield at midnight ...got back at 3am not much snow then but I too liked the 'gritting in progress' I saw 1 (on the other carriageway)in 140 miles....
and smirnoff_skier I can see from my window there is a fair covering up at Ringinglow If you feel like the exercise

The kids are well chuffed as there`s NO SCHOOL today, So gone sledgeing
down the park with there friends and their friends father.2 flask`s of hot choc and some money for some spogs.

Still snowing here - we had a lot of wind too so drifts of about 2ft in places. Saw someone trying to snowboard down the hill by our house this morning. Unsuccessfully I might add.

i drove from Peterborough to Maidstone last night, all fine until I hit Stansted and it turned totally white. As usual, despite the warnings, the councils were out too late with the gritters and the M11 was only 2 lanes of queues so I made tracks in the outside lane at about 15mph. M25 shut between M11 and the bridge, so ended up driving into east London. A13 shut at Barking due to major accident, so drove round Ilford, Dagenham and onto A13 near the bridge, kept moving but literally making my own tracks in fresh powder (shame it was in the car and not on my skis).
M25 2 lanes open last night on kent side, M20 the same, came off at Aylesford and the A20 was a whiteout, with minor roads impassable. My friends live up a hill, so the last 15 minutes of my journey was an experience, lots of wheels spinning and sideways movements.
Got my head down for a nights sleep, ready for a 10am meeting in Chessington, but another 4 inches overnight and the roads locally were a nightmare. Got onto M20 which was 2 lanes moving, and up to M25, which came to a grinding halt as soon as I was on it.
I did 14 miles from leaving in 3 hours, and 11 miles of that was moving until I hit the queue. Lorry had jacknifed up at J8 Reigate and it was gridlock, not helped by more snow falling heavily all morning. M25 was a car park so I got off at J6 and headed back the other way, said goodnight to the meeting and came home.
Car park at Clackett Lane services was good fun, no one there but lots of thick snow to handbrake turn in!
Hardly any cars on the road by early afternoon, just lorries. Snowing heavily across Surrey, Kent and Essex still, and now moved up into Cambs and Lincs too. Its slightly above freezing so its not settling yet, but that will change just in time for everyone coming home from work.

What a waste of a day, sat in the car. A little bit of snow and the UK comes to a grinding halt.
I heard a plane slipped off the runway at Heathrow earlier in the snow.
How come I have flown into Innsbruck in feet of snow and everything is ok?

Councils dont know how to prepare the roads, people dont heed the warnings and not make unessential journeys, and when they do experience the snow, they dont know how to drive in it.

The council dont how to prepare Jack S**T Tony and as for nugget
driver`s OH firm sent him to Newcastle this morning.
Only the first lane was drivable but toss pots were tearing down the other two lanes that were white over.

One chap raced down the second lane only to be passed by my OH 5 mins later when he was side on to the central reservation,Rather red faced he was but luckily in one piece.

it was amazing timing last night, landed at stansted from edinburgh at 6:15 and then it started coming down! 25cm here in hertfordshire now.

mr a couldn't get the car out of the driveway this morning, he managed to get on a train though which impressed me. lord only knows how/if/when he'll get home though.

the kids have been in the garden all day, they're hoping school will be closed again tomorrow. it's looking likely, the snow's still coming down

getting a bit wprried about the sheffied reports, I am on a course over snakes pass friday saturday hope it caolms down by then, I must work in they onky flaming school whose moto is "We don't close for snow"" bummer had to walk in cause im not too far away. still snowing in mansfield so hopefully we will finally get the call fromsenior leaders at 7am whether we are in or not, Bournemouth bad i heard had to phone our engineers come and fix dinner system and they all at home snowed in, so our casnteen was hell at dinner time.

Had to get the train in this morning.

The 15 to 25 cms "promised" yesterday for NS has been upgraded to 30 cms !!

Even the ski hill is closing at 4pm to permit staff safe travel home.

The schools didn't even open today --- the kids get to go to the ski hill rather than to school! :shock:

How come you can get off an aeroplane in Austria and a coach can get you up a mountain side to your hotel through drifts and the UK comes to halt with 5" of snow? doesn't make sense, none of the roads here had been gritted through the night. makes me wonder where my GBP64.00 squid a month council tax goes

I have just got back from the ski village in sheffield and have been there since it opened at 2pm, it was brillant. It was even better last night when the main dendex slope was just like a piste but the freestyle side was really good today as the snow provided more turning grip than the usual snowdex.

I had fifteen kids all moaning at me they telephoned school at 9.30 said no, we go every tuesday 5pm lesson, well they ski and i sat in bar with a latte and apple pie for an hour :(

i refuse to break ankle in sheffield and not get to austria in 31 days time. is dry slope much different to real snow

The apple pie is good! :lol:

The dry slope is good for people to learn the basics on or to refresh themselves before a holiday but after that, if you're not racing or doing the freestyle, it can get repetitive. The dryslope is so much slower and less responsive than the snow, but the kids seem to love it.

They were from last night.
We ditched the car at the bottom of the hill and walked up. Didnt think it was worth it after a 4x4 audi was coming down sideways!

I'm not surprised, people in the UK place too much reliance on 4WD in snow. It seems every news report on the TV recently has been saying that the road is closed apart from 4WD. Some sort of maths problem I think :D 2 x no traction is just the same as 4 x no traction :D

We have the tiniest sprinkling, together with what looks like a damp surface...which is ice. All our paved areas are totally glazed, it looks okay until you try walking on it.

Last Feb was much more impressive....

well i got up this morning and i had cleared car last night but again it was covered and yes lovely ice paths to walk on dont know which was worse the black ice on roads or ice on paths so walkies again , supposed to hit us again tonight bit early for britain normally april.

Freshies today, but it's miserable soggy UK type snow, not the lovely dry fluffy alpine stuff we had yesterday.
Been out in the car, and the side roads are very slushy and slippery :roll:

We had a good covering on Monday (enough to stop me getting into work) but it had all gone by Tuesday morning.
I was gutted as I was all set to get my skis out on Tuesday (and we have a couple of decent hills I was longing to try). :(

Well after all the time spent at the ski village in the snow last week, I have cobbled together some lovely snowy footage of our exploits.
Yes its not quite the same as the alps, but it was exciting anyway.

Looks great fun, I can feel a visit to the in laws in Sheffield coming on :lol:

Some cool jumps there. I was mildly disappointed at how poor the snow coverage was though.

Tis true, I dont think the video does it justice really. We had been there all day so some of the snow had packed down or been skidded away, it was more the novelty factor of some real snow.

I seen a dry slope once about 15 years ago, it was just a rectangle at an angle! Since then thats how ive pictured them till now. Was amazed to see cool things like...bends! Never mind half pipes and jumps. haha

My local dryslope is just a straight line on an incline. The Ski Village at Sheffield is, to be fair, a little different from the norm.

Still no snow in Sunderland, had some at the start of last week but didn't last. Been below freezing most nights so bit of ice during the day, but no deep white stuff up this end of the country. More's the pity - you seen OUR dry slope...

Pitiful compared to Sheffield, but better than nothing, and taught me the basics back in 1991...

That photo brings back memories - my first time on skis was on the nursery slope on the right of the picture, March 2007. :D

Just been out to pick Little Wickham up from school, Temp 4.5c and rain, that is the weather report from south Norfolk :cry:

Its raining in the East Mids, so the snow is almost gone from all the side roads, but gardens still quite white.

I got married at 19, and I was far too young to appreciate what it was all about at the time.

I hope the forecast storm stays away, I have got to get to London tomorrow for a 2 day exhibition.
