Hi Guys

Off to Niderau on Sat for 1st ever skiing trip, just though of a few more questions..

1) How widely is English spoken in resort - bars,restaurants etc?

2) What is custom and practice re tipping in bars and restaurants?

"Niederaud" is widely spoken in bars and restaurants mainly during the ski season, it is also a local custom to tip
in logs, the down side of this is that you will need to hire a wheelbarrow.

Will a snow-chain be required for the wheelbarrow? Where can I buy a single snow-chain?

Not to mention the need for ones own chainsaw. I believe only axes are available in resort!! :D

thats hilarious brucie! dont start another debate about snow chains..............which by the way I ended up going for cheap ones off ebay. Hubby is going to fathom them out this week! so fingers crossed lol.

2 weeks and counting!! will let you know how I get on.

Oh and while we are talking about Niderau, just exactly how do you say it! Folk keep asking me where abouts in Austria I am going and everytime I say it, it comes out different lol!

Ian, Ross,Brucie, shame on you. It is only Kookies second posting.

English is widely spoken (100%), in bars, restaurants, ski hire, ski school, but limited on the lifts.

Austrian custom for tips is rounding up, usually just 1 or 2 Euros. I.m afraid I sometimes forget, and do 10%, but that is not expected.

Wheelbarrow hire is available at Margreiters, but unfortunately, is not covered by Skiset.

Dave, in all fairness Rose was just encouraging us and Karen was amused!! Way to go helping the new poster out, I may even copy the advice in to a PM for her/him so they do not miss it, howsat for service!

Is'nt it horrible the day after you get back, your still on a high from a great holiday, but you feel down 'cos your back home. Last Monday we really had post holiday blues, so booked straight away for next year.

Well I'm not so sure. I am off tomorrow to relax, at Uni Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday then potentially skiing Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday..... :wink:

Now come on you guys lets be sensible about this everybody knows that you can't fit snow chains to a wheelbarrow, but nails is another kettle of fish, all thats needed for a great holiday in Niederau is a hand full of nails and a hammer. Now in future can we please have a little decorum, this forum should be a place for reasoned debate not a place for silly comments and derogatory remarks about a very popular Austrian resort. It doesnt matter, unless its a performance wheelbarrow, and you plan on doing emergency stops on the motorway in it.....
