Help me decide & marriage!

Whilst in France skiing I asked my Better Half to marry me and to my suprise she said yes, so its May 2010 were getting married. So we thought about going abroad and getting married and spending abit of money on it. Anyway my g/friend said "its a shame were spending all this money, we wont be able to go skiing"!!! Then said "cant we have a cheap wedding and go skiing with the kids in January" :P So we had a family vote and cheap wedding and skiing on the 1st week of January as exams are also an issue.

By January we will have kids of 14,14 and 15 and if were being honest it will probably be our last holiday together for along time, the kids will be on there way wanting to do there own thing.

So mines an age old question do I book early or do I wait? We will have to have an catered chalet as theres 5 of us. Loved France and Meribel for the amount of skiing the kids could experiance. Weird really as this is our last chance as a family to go away together skiing so it has to be special.

Not Bulgaria by the way, as well, i like to ski on snow!

What would you do?

Marry the women in the alps, that way you get your ski holiday/honeymoon.What makes you think the flock are going to fly the nest?If the ski holiday is that good, they'll be wanting next season, even if they have to contribute a sum towards it!Good luck and congratulations.

Re:Help me decide & marriage!

I agree with micric...get married on a mountain!

My sons are 19, 21 and and 24 and they do, as you would expect, do their own thing. However, skiing as a family is still very much on the agenda  so I think you may have to wait a bit longer than you expect before you're kids are 'on their way'.

Re:Help me decide & marriage!

I have recently seen a dvd of a couple that got married in an ice chapel, some-where in Lapland, looked lovely and so romantic. The honeymoon was their ski holiday. Wish I'd thought of it. Congratulations.

Re:Help me decide & marriage!

Back to the point, I'd book up now and make sure you get somewhere you really want and guarantee having this fantastic holiday. It wasmy wifes 40th in January, and we could have waited and got a cheaper holiday, but we booked well in advance to get the place we wanted at a good price with the early booking discounts, and had the best ski holiday we have ever had.

Great news on the marriage though, congrats.

Re:Help me decide & marriage!

I got married in Zermatt and can definitely recommend it. And Zermatt is high enough that you'll be sure of snow. Switzerland is one of the few countries where you can marry if you are not a resident.

You need to do a bit of paperwork first, but it's not too bad, basically prove that you are both free to marry and not already married. Than contact the town hall and tell them you want to get married there (you need to do a civil cermony as well as a church one to be legal). Contact the church of your religion and get whatever you need for that (letters of freedom etc). We got an English speaking, skiing priest who came out from Geneva to marry us, as the local one didn't speak English and wasn't keen on the idea.

Apart from that, there's very little else to worry about. Bring a nice warm outfit, tell your hotel you want a nice meal that evening and why (probably get free fizz). Tell all your friends and family and let whoever wants come out and join you.

Maybe only time will tell. We thought about getting married in a ski resort but family and friends are not really into that type of thing and we were worried about people paying out alot.

The main thing is the holiday in Jan 2010 for the 5 of us and all at adult rates. Only been to France and going to Arabba in March so not got much to compare to really.

Its snowing here in Heysham by the way! :P
