Packed and ready to go! Chambery airport?

The 7.40 to Chambery can't come quick enough! What is the airport like on a Sunday? Got a few hours to burn before the transfer... anything good to do kicking about? Bars?

You jest of course,its a flying field,not an airport,having said that,they were modernising last time I went,I dont remember seeing anything of any interest in arrivals,always been straight to transfer,take a book and a bottle I'm afraid!

Just googled it an it says there is a bar/restaurant upstairs with views of the runway and nearby mountains,if its open,will that do ya?

Last year there was a kiosk selling sandwiches - I'd say it's 50/50 whether that extends to alcoholic beverage. It really is a field and a portacabin job - but on the plus side the bags come through very quickly.

On the plus side,they handled 200,000 passengers last year,a record since it opened,that's 548 people per day average,you may be lonely!

why have you got to wait so long for the transfer? are you on about the transfer from airport to your hotel? how are you getting there?

Altibus, didn't think about the train till it was too late. I am paid up and have the tickets in hand.. are you going to tell me I was stupid about it?

I am used to skiing in Canada you see where transfers run every hour :lol:

I would never call anyone stupid. I was merely asking why you were waiting for transfers. Didnt know where you were going or if it was organised etc. I never consider getting a bus or train transfer from any airport no matter where we go coz it is a nightmare with the wingy tired kids and all the luggage. And shouldnt you be in bed? lol or are you too excited? was glenshee good?

When you see more and more of my posts you will be tempted I promise you that. I am just staying up, leaving at 3 so will sit and have a couple of whiskeys and chill out. I have no kids (that I'm aware of :wink: ,) just my own luggage to worry about, ski bag (20kg) and suitcase (20kg).

Glenshee was excellent (see signature) :D I took photos but only had the camera phone so they came out terribly.

In Hindsight I wish we were flying out now. After speaking to my neighbour who is in the merchant navy and has gave me a few stories of sailing in the north sea, I think I am about to have more of an adventure than I bargained for!. I cant help looking at the north sea ferry videos on youtube! lol please let it be calm!! the kids better bloody appreaciate this and not fight all the way there! enjoy your holiday. look forward to hearing about it. take some pics with a camera though lol!

You going from Harwich to Holland? I have done it before and it was an absolute nightmare in that Stenna Line cat thing?

I did the DFDS to Sweden when I was younger and it is fine, no bad memories! I think it is because the Stenna Line thing goes so fast.

not the greatest airport, although we found the bar (sorry ross, only just seen thread) and it's obviously got wifi!

look out for the bleriot plane hanging from the ceiling, my bessie mate's fiance is his grandson (previously mentioned hen weekend in edinburgh next weekend).

Have a blast ross, lots of off piste for you I'm guessing :D

I was in the airport now I am in the chalet.. just getting sorted for tomorrow... think I will spend the morning getting warmed up in and around piste before getting some powder turns in. Lets face it.... no rush!

Just finished up for the day, skied back to the door of the chalet, put the things away and here I am. In a way it is sort of a 'shoulda been here yesterday' type thing but still knee deep if you know where to look (knee deep on skis that are 115mm at the waist and 189cm long) The snow has just moved in and a fair bit is forecast before the morning so I can smell a pow day in the air.

As for the skis.. probably mounted a little far forward for my liking but good. More to follow.

I just quit for the day. I have a stomach upset and my legs have gone all rubbery, subsequently skiing very badly whilst shivering on the inside.

I blame it on a pain au chocolat mid morning :evil:

Still, I did some reasonable stuff this morning, and the avvy risk has gone down to "Considerable" so most of the hill is open :D

Very cold though :shock:

No luck, is it snowing? The clouds closed in here at about half 2 and it has just started to dump!! Still not the Rockies.... :wink:

The clouds came over and the light went poor, now the sky has cleared and the sun is out. Darn cold and breezy up top though.

Some patches of soft powder left, but some is starting to form slabs, and a light crust. Ross, I hope those fats of yours have a bit of weight in them )

There was some crust on one side of the mountain but the other side is pretty sheltered so remains completely soft and creamy. Snow is very light. Through the cut up stuff they are excellent so I am going to become a 'buy Whitedot skis' person.

Also don't come to Sainte Foy, it is rubbish.. go to Zinal or something like that, I hear it is excellent.

Ross, don't go to Zinal, all the locals would giggle at your skinny little skis. You would not cope with the humiliation at your tender young age. It's all big mountain freeriders in full face helmets riding impossibly large twin tips, taking outrageously straight lines down cliff faces.

I've not been to Ste Foy, when I used to ski France, always ended up in Villaroger on the other side!

I made it through the week unscathed. Some really awesome photos today (hadn't taken many at all), now over 300 but mostly sequence shots to delete :(
