Skiing close to Salzburg

Yet again I can't afford a ski-holiday this year, so in a pique of madness have booked a daytrip to Austria at the end of Feb with a couple of mates who are in the same boat.

We're picking up a hire car at the airport and I wondered if anybody had any recommendations for slopes fairly close (Around an hour away) and easily accessible from Salzburg.

I've skied a fair bit, but my friends are pretty inexperienced so we'll be skiing at their level.

Zell am Zee and Kaprun I believe are quite close - not sure how close though.

Schladming is about an hour away so might be worth a try?

That run at Zauchensee looked amazing. Propperly all over the place!

Ya looked great! I want to go there have been to flachau/wagrain area so may head back there next season! Stay in Zauchensee as its linked over flauchwinkle! Great area of skiing!

Bad Gastein and Hofgastein, Dorfgastein are close ish about an hour - skiers paradise tho - I am a boarder and liked the resorts (Dorfgastein was excellant slopes and snow) but found all catered for Skiiers and were some really good skiiers there - wouldn't say it was that great for beginners tho - but intermediates paradise....
Think the area pass there covers Schladming too.....Kaprun and Zell are both excellant and within your range?
Not sure how far Wilder Kaiser (Soll, Ellmau, Schaffeau) is but excellant snow in my experience and great all round resorts.

Obertuern...I have caught the 6am Manchester flight and skied at noon ..and its floodlit some evenings as well
