I think that is pretty reasonably priced?

:shock: Reasonable at Euro4.50? You are obviously not a typical (*cough* tight) scot then? That is the equivalent of GBP4.04 a pint......not reasonable I reckon. I will be stuffing my case full of tesco value lager :wink:

I got a shock this Christmas finding Austria more expensive than Switzerland for beer.

Large Weizenbier (500ml)

Mayrhofen - 3.80 Euro
Grindelwald - 3.50 Euro
St. Anton - 5.10 Euro

Lets get a grip lads 8).

Firstly, its beer - we're going to drink loads pretty much regardless of how much it costs (purely in the interests of rehydrating after a hard day on the mountain, of course) :shock:.

Secondly, even allowing for the extraordinary rise in the Euro, the price of a "pint" has probably only gone up by some 50p. Assuming average consumption of 6 pints a night (a lot given the much higher level of alcohol compared with UK), this means that a typical nights drinking is up by GBP3 a night or about GBP20 for the holiday. Unwelcome yes, a catastrophy - I don't think so :roll:.

Thirdly, how can you possibly compare drinking own-brand, chemically enhanced, beer in your room with the joy of downing a beautiful velvety smooth, ice-cold weissbeir in good company in a cosy inn - aaaaaghh:lol: Oops - bit early in the day for such alcholic fantasies :oops:

Of course, I do appreciate that the increased costs also affect other areas of expenditure such as food, lift passes, etc but these are clearly not as important as beer :wink:

Well it is GBP2.80 here for a corona, about GBP2.60 a pint. I expected far worse than 4..50 for a beer! I will cope..

6 pints a night? You obviously aren't accounting for the Chalet having unlimited wine and beer :wink:

As I have just said to a lad here in work "I dont go on holiday to save money" If a beer was a fiver a pint I would still sup the same amount and then re-mortgage when I get home.

Here in Manchester (the bigish smoke) a pint will cost about GBP4 - that is not seen as unreasonable (i know I am contradicting myself, but I have now reflected after 6 coffees in 2 hours this morning :) ). Lets all go away and pay what we have to.

There are bigger things to worry about - if the bar is 5 deep to get served do I order 3 or 4 beers each to make it worthwhile the wait?

I was joking about Tesco Value - I am more of an ASDA Smartprice man :wink:

we're also "worry when you get home" type people. No cutbacks on holiday I say!

:DHi, in a word or two its not cheap,

Mind you if you buy crates from the local supermarket ( as long as this is not a supermarket in a resort up at the end of the valley) you can still find good value plonk.

In Lidl's in BsM you can buy a 24 pack of small beers (4.5% - 5%) for around 5 euros,and its preety good stuff,or a litre of wine for about 1- 1 1/2 euros.Also SuperU in BsM has some excellent well priced booze :D :D

Have a few before going out then you do not need so much while out is my motto in the current situation

Found the beer prices in Mayrhofen at Xmas were on a par with what they were in Schladming last season (E 3.50 - 3.80). I am back to Schladming on the 24th so will monitor the difference often!

Yes the Euro is not helping but it still really only equates to the prices I would have to pay for a pint in London. Not sure my wallet could cope with French 'Apres' however i'm sure Id try!! :cry:

Meh...what's the point in worrying. I'm just taking as much money as I can afford with me, plus a bottle of spirits to warm the cockles before we go out of an evening. Morgans spiced should do the trick I think.

TBH I'm so tired at the end of a day's skiing that I only want to chill out and have a few quiet pints. Really can't be doing with a hangover when I've got to get up and drive at 8 am. For that reason I don't think I'll be having too many at night.

Now you mention having to pay for a pint in London Scarlett ,i can recall fitting the bar/restaurant at the MASH bar in London maybe 7 years ago and they were asking about GBP7 - GBP7.50p in the bar for just half a lager even back then :( so even though the prices in europe are not so good because of the exchange rate....they may not actually be that bad after all in comparison.

Mind you the cheaper the plonk the better :D

I always thought that when you weren`t wearing ski boots they were for protecting two x 1 litre bottles of gordons in the suitcase or whatever your tipple, that keeps me going for a couple of days.

I've been tracking the exchange rate for a while now (purely looking at the Post Office web site) and it seems to be creeping up a bit, touch wood! When it plumetted before Christmas I could get 998 Euros for my imaginary GBP1000, between Christmas and the New year I could get 1020, last Thursday it was 1068, Friday was 1078 and today it's 1089.

I have just come back from morzine and was paying 7.50Euro for a large (pint) beer.

9Euro for bowl soup

5Euro bowl chips, etc etc

So yeah....bit pricey :cry:

Kaprun at New Year was 3.50e for a small beer & 5.50E for a flying hirsch. Not too bad given Chamonix is 5.50e a beer and we're off there next week with no kids for a blast...........expensive looking blast I think!

Well I sorted our evening tipples out. We at work were selling gift sets of 4 miniatures of whisky for GBP20 at Xmas. To-day the Boots sale started 75% off, makes them a fiver for 4 miniatures, then my discount, makes them GBP3 for 4. Bought rather a lot. Miniatures packed all around our cases. :lol:

Returned from Bardonecchia yesterday. Beer - 3.50 Euros, Bowl of chips 3 Euros, can of coke 3 Euros. Nothing horrific price-wise I don't think.

Levi - Lapland. Just had a text from from parents who are there. Supermarket, wine box e30, bottle of whisky e24, bottle of Jacobs wine e12, bottle of Veuve e46 - no mention of food so I can see their type of holiday!!
