sunglasses or goggles?

I am off to Finland in a couple of weeks time, it will only be daylight for a couple of hours a day. Mostly will be under floodlights. Not sure whether to get new sunglasses (just broke mine).

sunglasses or goggles?

i'd guess you'd have to go for goggles, but i haven't skied under floodlights except for on the dry slope where i wore nothing so maybe this could be an option also??

I thought my goggles would be okay but Hubby thinks I will need sunglasses, just because there will be so much snow everywhere not just the slopes.

Re:sunglasses or goggles?

I skied 80 days last year... all wearing goggles. Goggles for night skiing, day skiing, flat light, no light, bright light, Sunshine. I have a couple pairs so just go with the right ones for the right conditions. Just what I think is the best..

Get some old school Ray Ban Wayfairers for when the sun doth shine and you aren't skiing. 8)

Re:sunglasses or goggles?

Most common lamp used for floodlights on ski slopes is a sodium vapour type. The light has a yellow colour like typical street lights. The best goggle lens for these conditions is yellow. Fortunately yellow lens goggles are common and reasonably cheap. If on a budget, yellow safety glasses work well...

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Venitex-Brava-Yellow-Safety-%2F-Cycling-Safety-Glasses_W0QQitemZ190273462591QQcmdZViewItemQQimsxZ20081220?IMSfp=TL081220113002r9239

http://www.safetysupplies.co.uk/trolleyed/3/index.htm

Trencher

Re:sunglasses or goggles?

Thanks for that guys, I have 2 pairs of goggles, oakleys one with orange tint and one with green tint, I shall see which works best.
Trencher those safety glasses look exactly like the ones I am supposed to wear at work while handling certain chemicals. They might just find their way into my case for the week.

Re:sunglasses or goggles?

Hubby has just reminded me of something, we will be doing a lot of travelling around on snowmobiles. Have to wear full helmets with visor, so that rules out the need for goggles or glasses at those times.

In my (limited) snowmobiling experience full face helmets were without visors and with need for goggles, just used my Crowbars (Oakley).

Thanks RossF, my experience is non existant, just going by pictures. Are they easy to ride? My driving and sense of direction is apalling.

Mine starts in the carpark. One day last week after I finished work, walked out to carpark where Hubby was meeting me. Opened a car door, sat in, said 'My God what a day I need a drink' and an old lady said 'never mind dear it will soon be over'. Not my Hubby, not my car. Ours and Hubby were parked behind her.

Re:sunglasses or goggles?

Thats a classic Rose :D I have a mate who does that kind of thing so often, but he is so quick he acts like everything is normal which confuses the hell out of people

I just had a BA check-in guy at Heathrow ask me if I had a drink last night, I replied honestly and said no, he looked at me funny and I told him I had 12. He just kind of stared at me and passed me my boarding card back.

The champagne in the First Lounge aint half bad mind )

Off to Glasgow for Hogmanay and from there to St Anton!!

Happy holidays all, and a fantastic snow filled new year.

Rose, they are surprisingly difficult to drive... don't corner as well as you would think either. Super fun though..

Yes I thought they might be difficult. I used to drive a suzuki jeep and the cornering on that was dreadful, I used to drive the long way round to avoid all the tight bends.
