Re:Apres ski prices (food, drinks & admissions) for Verbier & St Anton???

Relax - its a ski holiday and its going to be a little bit expensive whatever you do. I can't tell you anything about Verbier but I think it would have a reputation of being expensive. St Anton is fantastic, possibly some of the best skiing in Europe and probably the best apres ski. It will be a little more expensive than other Austrian resorts for food and drink but only marginally so . Your bigger problem may be in finding moderately priced accommodation in a good location - it can be done but is not easy.

Good luck with your plans.

Re:Apres ski prices (food, drinks & admissions) for Verbier & St Anton???

So you reckon St Anton for skiing's sake then? Right, that'll do me. I don't mind slumming and am a dab hand at sourcing cheap travel/accommodation, I see it as a challenge!!!

Thanks for the advice, Wanderer. It is greatly appreciated. The thing is that, as I haven't been skiing for years I haven't anything to draw comparisons from. I'm just after estimates on specifics e.g. glass of beer, a short, glass of wine, admission to a club, an inexpensive yet edible meal, etc.

Anyone any thoughts?
If it's anything like what I've been told to expect in Chamonix, then you're looking at close to GBP5 a pint.

I've no experience of European resorts...only been to Colorado, but it's just what I heard.

I'm sure some places are cheaper than others in any given resort. We're just gonna stock up in our apartment and head out a bit later than usual at night.

Re:Apres ski prices (food, drinks & admissions) for Verbier & St Anton???

Verbier was around 5 euros a pint, which at 1.45 to the GBP was bearable, but now that its rock bottom, everywhere this season is going to seem expensive.
A beer in Mayrhofen was 3E on average, which is about what I pay at home for a pint, so its not a big issue. However, what will be noticeable will be how much MORE it costs compared to previous visits.

Verbier has some excellent skiing, but I am trying St Anton out in Jan as I am told its THE place.

Re:Apres ski prices (food, drinks & admissions) for Verbier & St Anton???

Last time i was in St anton the beer was between 3.8 and 4.3 euro a pint .
On the mountain you could get lunch for say between 7 and 15 euro, but you do recieve good portions for your money.
If your a big eater try the famous Mooserwirt apres bar,not after 3pm though for obvious reasons. Its a bit more expensive than some of the other places but the portions are huge.

Have not been to Verbier , but its likely to be more expensive than St anton.
As posted above the euro rate is going to make a fair bit of difference to the costs this year.
We are going to Chamonix for the new year which can get pricey in some places.

New years eve in one bar i was paying 13 euro a pint, they doubled the price for that night , robbing barstewards.

Anyway id say go for St anton although a bit more expensive than the average austrian resort (10~20%) its well worth it.

1.00 EUR = 0.889232 GBP

I must say I am thrilled with the exchange rate, as I can book Snowbombing only in GBP, so it will be about 30% cheaper for me than last year!!!!! I love the Eurozone :D Think I might get a t-shirt made!!

Re:Apres ski prices (food, drinks & admissions) for Verbier & St Anton???

Ouch... might have to return to the days of sneaking a bottle of 2020 into the school disco!!! :D (Needless to say that this time it won't be a school disco I'm sneaking into.) For some reason it was always all the more satisfying when you were "getting away with it".

The Eurouro is kicking my a*** at work at the moment and my hols won't be anything different. Do you reckon Gordon Brown skis? I wouldn't mind taking him to the top of a mountain and finding out!

Fingers crossed for the sourcing of a rich, young, beautiful female benefactor with daddy's credit cards and a penchant for cheeky, fun-loving, Mancunian urchins! :P
