Perisher Last Resort Still Open in Australia

Perisher is the only resort still open in Australia after Thredbo became the latest area to end its 2026 season early.

The country has unfortunately endured one of its most difficult ever season with limited snowfall, prolonged warm spells thawing what snow there has been and limiting snowmaking and periods of heavy rain being the final straw for some resorts earlier this month. Most larger areas usually stay open to late September or early October but this year many have closed up to a month early.

Perisher, Australia's largest resort and the biggest in the southern hemisphere in terms of uplift, reports it has about 15% of its terrain still open with a base depth of 4-6 inches. The past week has seen some low overnight temperatures and the resort has had a bit of a PR push, posting reports of major overnight snowmaking efforts and images of pristine, well groomed slopes on its social media channels.

Bold fashion choices and throwback tunes took over the resort's slopes at the weekend as Perisher's much-loved Retro Day which saw guests and staff embrace the spirit of the day by donning their grooviest retro ski outfits and hitting the slopes in everything from neon pieces to vintage Perisher uniforms.

Community spirit and support for the local environment was on display with a sausage sizzle raising over $435 for Snowy Mountains Wildlife Rescue (LAOKO), a local organisation rescuing and caring for native wildlife in the Snowy Monaro region.

Festivities also included the popular spin the wheel activation, the Red Bull DJ truck playing old school classics, and a Sugar & Snow sweet shop pop-up following its successful first season at Mid-Station.

"There's still fun to be had on the slopes," said Emily Smith, Brand + Experience Manager, who added, "Get down here and make the most of it while you can. Perisher is open for skiing and snowboarding with great spring conditions thanks to its snowmaking, grooming and mountain operations teams."
