France 2030 Winter Olympics Venues Confirmed

The organisers of the French Alps 2030 Winter Olympic Games have unveiled a revised venue plan, confirming where almost all events will be staged.

The plan has been approved by the International Olympic Committee and makes extensive use of existing world-class venues in some of France's major ski resorts.

However, one event will take place outside France. Long-track speed skating will be held at the Netherlands, avoiding the need to build a new speed skating oval that would have little use after the Games.

Courchevel
Courchevel will host the Alpine skiing speed events, including the downhill and super-G races, as well as the ski jumping events. The resort already boasts Olympic-standard facilities and successfully staged the 2023 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships.

Val d'Isere
Following months of discussion, Val d'Isere has been added to the Olympic venue plan. The resort will host the Alpine skiing technical events, including the slalom and giant slalom races, replacing Meribel which had been an early favourite to be a host resort.

La Plagne
La Plagne's Olympic sliding track, originally built for the 1992 Albertville Games, will once again stage the bobsleigh, skeleton and luge competitions.

Le Grand-Bornand
Le Grand-Bornand will host the biathlon events. The resort has become one of the best-known venues on the Biathlon World Cup circuit.

La Clusaz
Cross-country skiing will take place at La Clusaz, another long-established World Cup venue that regularly hosts international Nordic competitions.

Serre Chevalier
Serre Chevalier will host part of the freestyle skiing and snowboard programme, using its existing competition facilities.

Montgenevre
Montgenevre will also stage freestyle skiing and snowboard events, with the disciplines split with Serre Chevalier.

Lyon
One of the biggest changes from the original bid sees several indoor events moving from Nice to Lyon. Figure skating, short-track speed skating and the main ice hockey competition will now be held in the city, making use of existing arenas and reducing the need for new construction.

Nice
Nice's role remains unclear. Some curling and ice hockey matches may still take place there, and the it is possible the closing ceremony will take place on the city's Promenade des Anglais.

Heerenveen, Netherlands
In an Olympic first, long-track speed skating will be staged outside the host nation, at the Thialf Arena in Heerenveen. Organisers said the move offers a more sustainable solution than constructing a new venue solely for the Games.

February 2030
The French Alps 2030 Winter Olympics are scheduled to run from 01 to 17 February 2030. They will be France's fourth Winter Games, following Chamonix in 1924, Grenoble in 1968 and Albertville in 1992.
