Gloves

I saw an article the other day about best ski gloves. It set me thinking. Gloves can be as expensive or cheap as you are willing to pay, obviously the better ones will cost more, and your requirements will depend on various things like ski/board, normally warm/cold hands, fit, material etc.
Personally I have cold hands and have discovered that mitts keep me warm especially if I wear a pair of thin woolly gloves inside them. Mitts do have their drawbacks though, they are not as functional in terms of picking things up, holding etc. But to me, to be warm and comfortable trumps everything.
I have found with gloves that they all share the same design fault, that being where the seams around the fingers and thumb are. Gloves (and some mitts actually) always seem to wear and fray on this seam due to holding/carrying skis. This may not be the case with leather gloves/mitts, but I have never had leather ones before. Maybe the glove designers need to think about this?
Anyway, what do others think?

Re:Gloves

Battery-heated undergloves. That's a Xmas present sorted for the wife. Cheers, Daved. I wear leather gloves dubbed for waterproofing, with silk liners. Keeps 99% of the cold out and waterproof, too.

Re:Gloves

Best gloves I've bought are the gloves worn by the lifties in France. Cheap leather gloves. They are very good value. They do need waterproofing when you first get them, but they are lovely and warm lambskin and fleece. In France they only come in in vibrant yellow, but Snowshepherd sell them in black as well. Combined with silk liners you'll be toasty warm. Never forget that a warm core is vital to keeping hands and feet warm. The French version are called venitex and only cost about euro15.

Re:Gloves

I have raynauds phenomenon which means my fingers can go white when cold, even in summer. Looks horrible, like they are dead. Anyway, I take ginko biloba supplement which helps immenseley as well as wearing mitts for skiing.

Re:Gloves

Best gloves I have ever had are leather with or without silk inners.
Just look at how many of the ski lift operators and instructors wear leather rather than synthetic.
Cheers

Re:Gloves

Another vote for SnowShepard's gloves. Wore 2 pairs alternately for 17 weeks last season and still unmarked/unworn. Breathable membrane works really well. I just proof them leather with Nikwax or dubbin.
