Re:WHERE TO GO!

I think most of Alps is reporting very nice spring conditions. Some very dreamy looking transformed snow up high. Am not sure Andorra would be on my list of places for April. Given you have wheels why not do a tour through Chamonix - Courmayeur - Pila - Cervinia, life would not get much better than that.

Good day! I'd like to go to Chervinia this days. What do you think about snow condition? According to this site the temperature is above 0C now.

Pretty good snow in Andorra at the moment, and a dump expected this weekend, so don't necessarily write that off.

Re:WHERE TO GO!

New snow is on way but freezing line is 2200m pretty much across whole of Europe. Will speed up the thaw / make a mess at lower slopes but be good news for those areas with high/glaciated skiing.

Re:WHERE TO GO!

Cervinia you could ski all year round if lifts opened so 100% you will get something 1/2 decent. Is a pretty sunny spot though so am sure will be a real spring skiing experience (hard/golden hr/soft)

Worst case you will get far too much sun.

Re:WHERE TO GO!

I wouldn't rely too much on late season dumps. Unless you are lucky enough to be in the resort when it happens and when clears, once the sun is out this snow slides, transforms and melts very quickly. But pistes higher up will benefit some for sure.

Re:WHERE TO GO!

We received maybe 15 cm. The snow line is lower than last time, but the snow is quite abrasive, probably due to crust underneath.

Re:WHERE TO GO!

Just come back from Passo Tonale and whilst they have had plenty of snow it was melting fast and it made for very heavy skiing even up high.

Spoke to a friend in Morzine who was experiencing similarly very warm weather.

Hopefully temps will have dropped enough for the forecast snow to save Easter for those heading to the Alps. I would go high if you can.

Re:WHERE TO GO!

I suspect I am done for the season the way weather looks at the moment. Went touring Sunday and I much more enjoyed schlepping up then skiing down. 4 hours hike to ski fairly average snow for the first 300 m of descent followed by crust/mush/slush. I will go up to watch a race next weekend because there is usually a good party on a mountain, but then if forecast rain materializes, putting the gear on might not even be worth it. Cherry and plum trees have already finished blooming, tulips are in full bloom, it feels like this season summer will come even before Easter will:(
