can anyone point me in the direction of the closest "introduction thread"? Or would this one suffice? :)

Thanks. My opinion won't count much though as I've only been skiing in a few locations.

Welcome Alessi - friendly bunch here and LOTS of knowledge on all matters snowsport related (and a few other things besides)

Grand point Alessi. We could also have an "intro to snowsports" thread covering stuff like what to wear and where to get it (TKMaxx or nicked from your brother), what to expect when you get there, do you need lessons, whether to DIY or TO, etc etc etc.

I've just been living in a tropical country for the last 2.5 years and I haven't actually seen snow for about 3 years. I'm slowly getting geared up for this season though and I can't wait!

I am also new to this site, and pretty new to skiing.
Have just spent Christmas skiing in Val Di Sole, Italy, and now have the bug for skiing.
Had a few lessons and took to it very quickly, and by the end of the week, was flying down Blue and Red runs :-)
can't wait now to get away again.

Definitely not from Dundee LOL, originally Glasgow, but live in Stirling just now :-).

Itching to get away sometime January, but no one that I know who skies can either get the time / money to go, so soon after Christmas.

Desperate to get away, but not going on my own and be a sad billy-no-mates. Really enjoyed the skiing and a wee bit of apres-ski does not go amiss.

I really like going places by myself, although I confess that my main solo January journey is always back to Niederau in mid Jan, so I am not lost for company. I have no probs going solo to other resorts, I went to Keystone, Colorado by myself. You just meet people.

Of course, cost wise, I plan ahead and get low air fares. Even so, you can, in January, get return air fares, Edinburgh to Munich for GBP90/100. Euro60 rail fare to the alps, plus a bus or taxi, say GBP75 total.

Euro30/night b&b in a village, do your homework with the tourist board in your chosen resort. GBP185.

Low cost food is GBP10/12 per night, GBP80. Lunches GBP30/week, lower if you are trying.

Total ~ GBP370. Add the lift pass for your chosen resort, plus ski hire.

If I am on a low cost trip, I go hand baggage, including ski boots, so no hold luggage cost.
