Booked the flights, now to sort the accommodation and the car.

Dobby, I have just posted a car hire note on Icy's prison page. I should have started it as a separate thread. Will your car hire involve driving in a different country,and, if so, do you have notification of a daily charge?

Similarly, if you were - for example - flying into Norway (not in EU), hiring a car there and driving into Sweden, then the new legalities described in New Swiss Car Hire Rules may apply!

(you're probably not doing that, but someone may - who's unaware of the change)

Please can we stop all this excitedness (if that's a word) about skiing. In the 16/17 season warm up, and during season too, please remember little old me who won't be skiing this season at all :(

March next year I am dragging myself, Mrs Icy and my mum to South Africa to do a tour including a week on safari. You can imagine how I kicked and screamed saying I want to ski instead!!

So, please bear a thought for little ole me :cry:

That is unacceptable icy. You cannot possibly have planned to be in SA for a whole ski season. There are always ways!

I did broach the subject last night and it was not very well received. Thought about a quick weekend....but it seems I'm not allowed ;)

Well done Dobby! Sadly we won't be able to join you in Are this year (assuming you have gone for Feb half term?)

Family BB looking at Christmas/New Year or Easter. The latter highly likely to be a last minute booking if the conditions look ok (and would be holiday no 2). Therefore we are concentrating on Xmas/NY at the moment. Zermatt high up our list although looking rather expensive now that the pound has weakened. I'm thinking of emailing Boris and Call Me Dave for a contribution.......

Very sad and worrying to read Iceman's post. Am getting married in August with honeymoon over Christmas-NY (first two weeks skiing lost :-(). Working on a master plan to get in a decent amount of time on the slopes.

Many thanks Dave, had suggested similar myself however:
1) non skier
2) doesn't like the cold
Looks like I will be heading off on my first beach holiday for 15yrs.

Ranch, this is grounds for divorce and you are not yet wed!

When I met Fraulein Mac, she was also a non-skier. We courted, she joined me for my second season in Niederau. and became a really good skier, ~ then we got married!

She now skis like a dream.

My good lady, now Frau Mac, also does not like the cold. Hence, where I aim to ski every month from January onwards, she focuses on March skiing ~ many warm/hot days. Much better than any beach.

Beach holidays drive me mad. What do you do? If I am not active, I like to paint. Once I had painted 6 palm trees, that was the end of my beach holiday......

Am afraid my painting skills are not up to much!

On a positive note, I don't really get the social element of skiing itself. Typically the faffing starts before you even arrive at the slopes and descends from there. Unless someone is super organized then it just isn't going to work. Much prefer to leave the socializing for after the skiing.

I feel for you Ice man but I'm heading for the white slopes in Feb. -) All the way from sunny South Africa that is. Skiing vs game drives ? Skiing all the way :lol:
