ski rentals in Zermatt

I am travelling to Zermatt for a brief trip to ski that last 3 days of April. I am considering whether to travel with all, some or none of our gear from the states. We were considering just bringing our boots and renting skis, or also bringing the adult gear and rent the kids gear (Girls are 7 and 9) and the rental prices are cheap. We are staying with relative in Geneva for 5 days before heading to Zermatt by train. Any advice/opinions would be appreciated.

I would normally have suggested Skiset, posted on the left side of the J2ski page.
However, I checked, and the hire dates seem to be blocked, mid month, suggesting those particular hire shops will be closed.

My suggestion now would be to contact your proposed accommodation, and ask them.

Thanks Dave Mac (by the way, I have a cousin who is also Dave Mac(Donald). I had followed that link and noticed they appeared to be closed after a certain date. I had checked a few shops and If we rent I think I have figured out where we will go.

I guess I was more looking for opinions on the debate between bringing and renting your gear. I have always schlepped my gear when traveling to western U.S. Or Canadian resorts without any real issues and brought my own gear a decade ago when traveling to Lech, but that was a solo trip. Now I have a family and we are only skiing for three days so the rental choice seemed like a reasonable consideration. We would certainly save money by bringing our own gear, but the convenience of not having to travel with it via planes and trains might be worth the cost of renting.

I agree with generally taking own skis. Last month we took 5 pairs of skis with us to Vail, Colorado, in two ski bags.

However, for 3 days, this is a lot of hassle.

I suggest local knowledge would release some info, and a) the tourist board, b) your accommodation hosts, hotels etc, should provide good local info.

Dorsaz Sport http://www.dorsaz-sport.ch/en/rental-centre/rental-in-winter.html next to the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise gondola station. You can leave your equipment there overnight free of charge. Useful if it's just you and the kids.

We use Flexrent when we are in Zermatt. They are near to the sunnegga funicular. Excellent kit and you can leave your gear there overnight.

I hear that Stoked on the main street also very good. We'ved used Stoked for lessons before.

Have a great time. Zermatt is a superb resort.

...I took my own kit last year but my friend rented from Intersport and was perfectly satisfied.
