Where to ski 2017

Hi,

I'm looking for help if possible. I'm looking to take my OH away for a weeks skiing ( with no children shussss). I've not skied for years (9 at least) and am not the best red & blue runs. He's a novice first time skier. I'm thinking of s chalet holiday in either la rosier or val.

Questions -

Do these appear suitable for a pair of novices.
Who would you recommend booking through
We're thinking of January / February out of school holidays I assume the snow will be good then?
Any tips for us novices??

Thank you in advance.

Re:Where to ski 2017

That time of year should be good snow pretty much anywhere.
Chalet holidays are a good way of keeping costs down, and having to think about little else other than skiing and turning up at meal times.
Personal experience tells me to avoid Crystal for their own chalets as their food/menu was terrible last time I went. Ingham's, Ski Total (same group), Skiworld have all been good for me.

Somewhere with beginner slopes at the heart of the ski area I would suggest, so you can ski while he's in lessons, and not be far apart.

I learned in Val Thorens and the others I went with said the place was perfect for that. Not sure Val d'Isere would be such a good choice.

Italy and Austria are a lot cheaper than France for food and drink.

Think about somewhere close to lifts, shortish transfer from airport. Everywhere has a ski school to book in to.

Obergurgl or Kuhtai in Austria would be a good shout, as would Alpe d'huez, Montgenevre and Flaine in France. Cervinia in Italy is brilliant for everyone, and La Thuile may be worth a look as well, its the Italian side of the ski area from La Rosiere.

Isn't Soldeu a party place? I've looked at catered chalets there but not seen any.

Re:Where to ski 2017

Can be if you want it to be, but pretty family oriented with good entertainment in the evenings. Good English speaking ski school and excellent beginner areas. The chalets are based in the neighbouring resort of El Tarter, but the hotels in Soldeu are all good in my view.
Both Crystal and Neilsons are big in resort.

Re:Where to ski 2017

Thanks Brucie I wasn't sure! We will have a look. The last time I went I booked with a small independent company who had their own chalets on resort. Not even thought of Andora though as I assumed it was a party place but I'll look now.

Re:Where to ski 2017

Pas does have that reputation but some people go there for that reason. I would avoid it. Soldeu-El Tarter is far more discerning.

Re:Where to ski 2017

Claviere in Italy is pretty good. Its fairly quite on an evening, but if you are after a more lively scene you can bus, taxi or walk into Montegeneve. You can get a lift pass that lets you ski in Montegeneve and Sestrierre/Sauzie.
Crystal holidays do a pretty good all inclusive deal to the resort
