Coach transfer, car hire at airport or train transfer? It makes a lot of difference as to what's available to you.

Re:places to ski

La Plagne in France is a great resort for long blues and wide red slopes. It has a transfer time of 3 hours though. It is the only resort I have been to twice because the runs are so nice.

Re:places to ski

Hi all, 3 hrs is too much, one of our group just won't do long transfers so 2hrs max, talking coach time ,Italy is our prefered option as France on the 27th feb I believe is one of their holidays which will make it too expensive. Cheers.

Re:places to ski

Draw a circle 1 1/2 hrs from Geneva and pick a resort. Flaine / PDS / Clusaz / St Gervais / Megeve. Basically any of those will fit the bill. Cheap flights to Geneva and &lt;30 Euro each way transfer. Accommodation costs as you wish. For skiing you have to question if you need more than a comfortable bed and a hot shower which many 2 and 3* hotels tick, Air B & B also worth a look at.

Re:places to ski

Is the date you mention still French holidays? If so, some French resorts may well be rammed. If not, Alpe D'Huez would be good. I like LDA but it's a marmite resort. A mate really rates Montgenevre.

Re:places to ski

You could also look at somewhere like Sauze d'Oulz which is less than 90 minutes from Turin. Lots of gentle skiing available. Innsbruck would give you access to northern end of Dolomites in less than 2 hours. Dolomites are perfect for intermediates, though the timid one might not fancy one or two pitches on the Sella Ronda.

La Thuile's a good place. Home runs not easy but you can download on a lift.

Courmayeur - just the others side of the Mont Blanc tunnel.<br /> Nice town and enough of the early intermediate skiing that you are looking for.

Re:places to ski

To be honest this year I would be looking for a resort with plenty of N facing slopes. Alps are feeling and looking distinctly spring like at moment. Already some full depth avalanches in S and W facing slopes which would not be expecting for another 6 weeks or more.
