Alcohol ban on Eurostar

Just heard some very very sad news. This was part of my holiday!

Why are they doing this to me? I want to cry :(

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
IMPORTANT EUROSTAR INFO,
Please note that Eurostar no longer permit alcohol on the overnight train. None will be sold on board and customers are not permitted to bring their own alcohol with them. Any alcohol will be confiscated during check-in and only non-alocholic drinks in sealed bottles will be allowed to pass through security at your departure station.

No fear, there is a solution...

Woman drinks an entire GBP120 bottle of cognac at airport security because liquids aren't allowed in hand luggage

...er, that wasn't you now was it?

Joking aside, you can see the potential for people getting tanked up before they get on the train.

Hey Nelly P,

didnt mean to make you cry!

I have also complained to Eurostar as I am amazed at this decision, I have not ever seen anyone so bladdered they were a danger to anyone or themselves..... I have asked why they have made this decision, I doubt we will get an answer though!

Debs

Re:Alcohol ban on Eurostar

Yep they are, this is the reply I got from them after contacting them about this...... Nelly got the exact same reply, word for word, so they were obviously expecting a boat load of emails about this.....

Thank you for your email regarding the alcohol ban on the overnight ski train for next season.

I completely agree that boarding the train is the start and part of the holiday and is something that should be enjoyed by everyone on the train. If everyone were as reasonable as yourself and just enjoyed a couple of glasses of wine, some food, some conversation and maybe some sleep then we would have been able to continue with the alcohol policies as before.

Unfortunately not everyone is as reasonable as yourself and there have been incidents of inappropriate and unacceptable behaviour on board the overnight trains which has had a detrimental affect on our other travellers and has regrettably resulted in this policy change. It is a shame that the behaviour of a few travellers can have such a major impact on all on board the train but unfortunately this has proved to be the case. This policy will hopefully helps us make sure that everyone can enjoy a relaxed ambience on board and that everyone arrives happy and ready to start their holiday.

I appreciate your comments regarding quieter carriages but again this would only work if everyone were courteous and respectful to others and this is not something that can be policed in the manner that would be required.

I am sure that at the of this ski season the situation will be reviewed but unfortunately I do not foresee this policy being changed for any future seasons.

I do understand you may be disappointed by this and fully sympathize but we doe have to ensure the comfort, happiness and safety of all on board the train.

Re:Alcohol ban on Eurostar

Bringing this back up as I am wondering if anyone has actually used the Ski Train this season yet? We were wondering how people who are self catering and usually take spirits or wine with them how Eurostar would police that, will they make everyone regardless of where they are staying, throw away all of their alcohol?

I also wonder if they will therefore they will close the bar that is past check in for the night train?!?

Surely someone has used the service by now?

Debs

Why would anyone want to take wine or spirits to a country where it would be cheaper to buy and better quality?
