Cheap Allround Good Ski Resort

Hi All,

Me and 6 of my friends are going on our 4th ski trip, it seems this year everyone has a lot less money so trying to do it on the cheap.

We have previous been to Morzine & Meribel, twice at each but they are always a little on the pricey side.

We have a few expert level skiers and a few intermediate.

We all love our skiing but would also like somewhere with a good apres as we are all 27.

If anyone can suggest anywhere it would be much appreciated, we have been told about Bulgaria but know nothing about it.

Thanks very much.

I wouldn't even consider Bulgaria, look at Sauze d'oulx in Italy, ticks all your boxes. Really cheap lift pass (relatively of course) prices for food and drink as good as uk and good and plentiful skiing. In a nutshell, great skiing good apres and excellent value. I'm sure you'll get a lot of agreement on this site.

Re:Cheap Allround Good Ski Resort

Time of year may be important.
When is your trip planned for? Too early and the better value resorts may struggle for snow.
Sauze would be a good possibility as Birdy says, also have a look at Serre Chevalier.

Re:Cheap Allround Good Ski Resort

Thank you for your help! Sauze does look good but struggle to find anywhere in the town to stay? We have always had SC chalets in the past but can't find many there, is there not a lot of places to stay in the town? Any other suggestions would also be much appreciated

Mike, top of this page, click "chalets", and fill your boots.

I disagree with the stated views on Bulgaria, we enjoyed our skiing there. If Sauze is of interest, then from the chalet page above:
https://www.j2ski.com/ski_chalets/Italy/Sauze_d_Oulx/Jouvenceaux.html

Agree with Sauze as a cheap location with good skiing and a bit of nightlife.
Cervinia is another Italian option. The lift pass prices seem to be a lot cheaper in Italy than France too.

The cheapest resort I have been to in France is Les Deux Alpes, plenty of good value food and the drink is not too bad for France too.

Rather disappointingly, it is also the case that many of the people who big up Bulgaria on here turn out to have businesses there. Don't you? I suggest we change your username to make that clear?

Back on topic for the OP; assuming you're from the UK, the fall of the Euro against the pound has brought even France back into the mix.

Generally though, for the best value, search out the place that the Tour Operators (and most Brits) tend not to go to. Morzine and Meribel are very popular (for good reason) but there are several hundred French ski areas that offer much better value.

Your Euro will definitely go further in Italy and you'll find on-mountain prices in particular to be much better than elsewhere.

Exactly when you want to go will have a big effect too; January is cheap just about everywhere, as is mid-March as a rule. And if you're feeling lucky there are pretty much always good late deals to be had outside school holidays.

If you're still flexible on timing then my punt would be Champoluc in mid-January and wait for a deal; a good chance of being ludicrously cheap and cracking skiing for most levels too.

Take a look at Serre Chevalier - should suit all of you, always seems good value for money on or off the mountain and has plenty of options re catering. If you have your own transport, Montgenevre is not far away with access to the Milky Way.

Now thats a good call, pretty much snow sure, reasonable prices for France and plenty of skiing ....
