How old did your kid start to skiing?

My son 4 years old this year plan to go norway. Can we start to teach him or have to wait him get older? And also norway in november are there start skiing? Many thanks.

A few years back I asked Fritz Strobl the same question ~ he said age 3 to 4. You do, however, see many two year olds skiing.

We had my grandson on skis at 2 years old, but just playing. Then this year he started skiing.

There were lots of small children learning to ski in Hemsedal when we were there in 2010 and 2012. They had better technique than me on our 1st holiday!!

I think it's something to do with a low centre of gravity and super flexibility.

I did the same as Dave, put my son on plastic skis to play on at 2. He progressed to Neiderau's ski school at 5 and the big break through came the following year when he was happy to ski any where on the mountain.. Aged 30 he is still loving it with his friends having first over taken me at about 20, up until then I could throw in a quick couple of turns at speed and loose him.

Myself and Mrs Stevie999 are taking our boy for the first time to Morzine next year, he will be 8 then. I cannot wait to see him in action. He's having lessons in the morning and then with us in the afternoon.

That reminds me......does anyone have any recommendations for snack bars on the slopes around here please? TIA.

We started both ours at 4. I think much before that there's not really the strength or coordination so I don't think you gain anything starting them any younger.

We're lucky enough to ski twice a season and my boy's now 7 and already only skis on piste to get to off-piste! (well, the trees beside the piste).

I'd also recommend some private lessons for kids. When 5 my boy missed ski school as he was ill so they gave him two 90 minutes private lessons instead. Good grief, at the end of each it was like picking up a different child!

For snacks in Morzine you can't beat the Portes du Soleil restaurant at the top of the Pleny lift. Especially with kids as it's where ski schools drop off and there easy access to the loo etc.

Our favourite pizza place is the Grand Pre at the bottom of the three lifts, Troncs, Tete and Charniaz.

I enrolled my youngest daughter in skiing at the age of 10, but that's not her first brush with sports. Before that, she joined a summer soccer clinic led by the damfakta (that's our women's soccer team) and excelled in it, unfortunately, between skiing and football, she went for the more popular choice here in northern Europe. I think 10-12 are the right ages for introducing your child into sports.

From about 14 moths to three years old in child care with outside play and a introduction to skis.. From three ESF started lessons ...
