Buying lift passes before travelling

I'm off to Solden in just under 2 weeks and the EU exchange rate is as high as its been in 7 years at 1.35.
Golden gives me the option to buy online lift passes which I thought might be sensible to do while the rate is as high as its been.

OR should I hold on and get them out in resort and gamble on the rate remaining high in the next couple of weeks?

I know no one has got a crystal ball, but the rate seems to have been steadily climbing due to the GBP strengthening against the uncertain EU in recent weeks and months.

Waiting could mean I lose out if the rate rises further, but could also mean as its this high now I should view it as being a good rate to go with.

Undecided....any advice?

If they post them out to you, then you might save a bit of queueing on your first day... otherwise, toss a coin!

It's only two weeks, what could happen? (apart from Russia invading Ukraine and a Greek exit causing the total collapse of all Eurozone economies...).

Re:Buying lift passes before travelling

Queues at the Giggijoch lift pass office were horrendous when I went to Solden; less so at the Gaislachkoglbahn. A little bit of time saved in the queue is never a bad thing but I do enjoy the gamble of waiting to see if the rate improves or not (also very pleased to see the steady progress that sterling as made against the CHF since the sharp drop in January!)

Re:Buying lift passes before travelling

We always buy our passes beforehand, thereby avoiding any waiting about in the resort.

Even if the rate changes by 10% it will still make less than GBP20 difference either way......

Re:Buying lift passes before travelling

You can buy lift passes in the ski hire shops, not all but certainly the large ones. We've never bought them at the lift stations simply because of the queues, always at the same time as getting our skis. And we don't usually book skis in advance either. Not ling now and snow forecast all week.

Re:Buying lift passes before travelling

I tried buying online but theres a problem with taking card payment, my card company have not even received a request so its the merchant not processing it properly, which is annoying as it now means I have to wait until I arrive in resort.
I may take advice and pay in a local shop rather than wait for the morning queues, although I will be up and out for first lift come what may.
Yep, snowing right now, and forecast on and off the next 10 days.

Re:Buying lift passes before travelling

I normally buy one of two season passes. One of them offers a good discount, if booked prior to the start of December.

If I go to another country, normally with a T/O, ski passes are offered for sale on the bus. We ask the price, do a comparison with the local price. The T/O delivers the Passes to the hotel/chalet.

Re:Buying lift passes before travelling

If the pound rate goes up between now and your trip your gain (or missed gain) will be not particularly significant, it's not like if you are buying a flat or a car :)

Re:Buying lift passes before travelling

Just had a thought, if you're staying at Innerwald you can ski down to Phillip and there's a hire shop which sells lift passes. Or carry on down to the Gaislakogel and you'll be able to get it there.
