Hi. Off to Alpbach on self catered basis. Anyone know cheap n easy ways to be catered there? Eg frozen food delivery or alternatives?

It is so cheap to eat out in Austria, it is not worth the effort.

If you like to self cater, buy fresh food at the supermarkt, and cook a meal.

There's a moderate sized supermarket on the left just as you reach Alpbach village. Restuarants are dirt cheap, though, by most European ski resort standards!

Everything is relative to different people. "Its so cheap to eat out in Austria"....thats a broad statement as a restaurant in Alpbach, Niederau or Soll for example may cost a lot less than one in Lech, St Anton or Ischgl.
BUT it depends if you have a budget in mind. who you might have to cater for. If you're taking the family, eating out may prove too pricey so you will need a supermarket and some DIY cooking I guess.

Much cheaper on the whole than France though, depends what you're used to.

Thanks for that guys. Really helpful. GBP10per head acceptable for food. Not up for spending loads as just had the family ski hols and this needs to be cheap and cheerful. The French Alps so expensive!

Agree SM, French area costs leave much to be desired. As with the Swiss, lessons, will be learned.

Some folk may try to differentiate between areas in Tirol on a cost basis. That is pretty futile. I maintain that costs of eating out in Austria is modest. There may be a one euro difference between one area and another.

A Groestl in the Arlberg is available from many places for under GBP10.00, pretty much the the average in Tirol.

Sorry, when I read your sweeping "Its so cheap to eat out in Austria" statement I didn't realise you were only referring to certain parts. Spend some time in Lech, Zurs, St Anton, Ischgl and Obergurgl amongst other places and let me know if you still maintain its "so cheap"

Like I said, its all relative, and certainly my experience tells me its more cost effective than France, and probably more enjoyable too.

I have skied and eaten in all those places, plus most other regions in Austria. Austria is a low cost country to eat.
Interesting to discover that the cost of supermarket wine has fallen by a fair bit from previous years.
