Where to go from Geneva next week?

A couple of friends and I have flights to Geneva next Thursday 11th for four days and were due to go to Sestriere but have cancelled that due to lack of snow.
I have been having a look at possible options of a resort that we can drive to from Geneva but even Tignes and Val Thorens are looking very bare and there is very little snow forecast for the next week.
It is going to get very cold so I know the snow making will be getting started but I was hoping to get a few opinions as where to go?
I have looked at Cervinia which seems to have the best snow today.

Essentially we can wait until this time next week to book but already I have noticed that accommodation is getting harder to get in Cervinia as it's obviously not just me who wants some early season skiing.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Re:Where to go from Geneva next week?

Hmm, Cervinia and Zermatt are the obvious candidates right now, but nearby Valtournenche has been posting some impressive pictures this week... but I have a feeling the forecast is going to be dialling in some more snow over the next few days.

Book Cervinia if concerned - if you check Cervinia on booking.com, there's availability and some with free cancellation).

You might have a few more options by mid-week but worth keeping in mind that anywhere not already open will probably not open before next Saturday (so you might have Friday where your only option is one of the above).

Re:Where to go from Geneva next week?

p.s. there's some decent snow looking to cross the Pyrenees over the next couple of days... outside chance the mid-Alpine forecasts for the weekend might pump up a bit...

I'd agree with Saas Fee or Cervinia. If driving to Saas Fee, you have to park the wagon in the car park at the edge of town. Loads of accommodation for the dates you want at: http://www.saas-fee.ch/en/Unterkunft
Saas Grund is a cheaper option if you don't mind driving or the bus!

Re:Where to go from Geneva next week?

Bit of a lottery - wait a week and risk struggling with accommodation in Cervinia.
Book now and find that there is a dump and lots of options !!!
Mind you - wish I had your problem.
:)

Re:Where to go from Geneva next week?

Thanks for the suggestions, we decided to play it safe and book Cervinia. At least we know it's open and there is snow.
It could dump in other resorts like Andy said but it's only three and a bit days skiing so I'm sure we can find a nice bit to play around on in Cervinia.

Re:Where to go from Geneva next week?

Very surprised that you had trouble finding accommodation, did you look at the Cervinia website or the Valle d'Aosta tourism website http://www.lovevda.it/en/database/4/ski-snowboarding/aosta-valley/cervinia-4-day-special/2611 ? Most places have special deals at this time of year to try and drum up business. If you look on the webcams there is hardly anyone there at the moment, in spite of excellent snow cover and all the lifts being open.

Keep an eye on the forecast, it might be very cold at the end of next week.
