PAS DE LA CASA ANDORRA SNOWFALL JANUARY / FEB

Hi there
I am new to snowboarding.
I have booked a holiday to pas de la casa - Andorra in on January 24th -31st 2015 with my husband.
Can anyone tell me generally what the snowfall is like there and at that time ?
Has anyone one been there ? which are the best bits, good places to go out for apres ski ? any good food ?

Pas is a good fun town. I winter in Soldeu, just over the hill. The sking/boarding from Pas is excellent and there are loads of pretty good, reasonable restaurants right on the slopes at Pas. We regularly ski over and L'Husky is one of our favourites. Pichet de vin rouge and a substantial main course usually comes to about 15E per head.
Last couple of years have had epic snow conditions from early December, so you should be ok for snow. Snow making is also extensive in the area should there be any problems in that respect.
You will have a great time I'm sure. See you in L'Husky for lunch maybe!

The pyrenees are a very underrated place to ski .... always worth a visit :thumbup:

A hidden gem Wickers.
But not according to some people for whom high alpine resorts are the only places worth skiing.

Absolutely agreed, Brucie. One particular poster repeatedly says "go high". And yet, if I look at my ski statistics, I get much more skiing at a low/modest height resorts. In Zermatt, Cervinia, Saasfee, Whistler, plus so many other high resorts, I have lost days and days of skiing, due to severe mountain conditions.

There are exceptions, where the high areas are really interior, I recall getting off a lift at 13050ft in A-basin, Colorado. That area loses little to climatic conditions.

However, in Europe, I have lost far, far fewer ski days in medium level alpine resorts compared with "go high" areas.

We love Andorra - the ski area is fabulous. Here's hoping there is early snow this year as we are hoping for a quick weekend in mid December!

I totally agree about the Pyrenees being underrated! But I may be biased as we live only 90m away :) We never tire of skiing in Soldeu and have had some of our best powder days there!

Usually good snow by then; here are the charts for the last two seasons - well over a metre base by late January :-

Whoops - hit the wrong keys - meant to say it is the worst station we have ever skiied at. Far better off in The Alps :mrgreen:

Had a fantastic week in Soldeu, huge ski area. Lacks diversity in terrain, 95% easy cruising, very few challenging runs. So won't suit everyone, but if blues/easy reds and getting the miles under your skis are your thing, it's superb.

Was very busy, lots of unpredictable beginners, so you had to have your wits about you.

Doesn't score very high for gastronomy, but it's reasonably priced. Drinks are cheap (fir a ski resort).
