Re:Ski A ski trainer

I like the the fact that it would be good for building ski muscles. Might purchase purely for post knee injury pre ski training.

They were at the ski show last year and looks like they will be there this year. I have thought about making my own out of Lego but I think my daughter may have issues with that :-)

Looks like something that will end up in next years yard sale. You'd be better off joining a running club in the off season to improve your fitness.

Re:Ski A ski trainer

Biking is awesome exercise and I would place it the same group as what Warren Miller calls "freedom sports"' which include sking, snowboarding, surfing, skateboarding, amongst others. They all have that sense of indiviual effort and movement, wind in your face coupled with the excitement and bit of that adrenalin rush we skiers all live for!
I had a full tear of my ACL more than 20 years ago and today still charge the eastern slopes of the Canadian Rockies (where I live), with my 20something kids. Skiing is better, but biking is GREAT! Season is about a month away, can't wait!

That all said, wouldn't it be fun to break these things out at the end of a day after skiing and beers!

Re:Ski A ski trainer

They were at the Manchester ski show today. I think they are a bit overpriced at GBP40, for 20 might be worth a punt. They claim that it teaches your muscles the right movements and stance. I am not convinced enough to spend that kind of GBPGBP

I thought they might be at the ski shows, to be honest I think I'll stick with the cycling and leg strenth training. Can't imagine me and Mr Nelly regularly getting our ski boots on and doing this in the lounge.

I did think initially it would be good for me and my knee, but there's plenty of things to do without spending GBP40.

Re:Ski A ski trainer

I would be very wary of doing exercise in ski boots after a knee injury, as they limit the range of movement in your ankle joint.

Curiously the platform on which the boot sits is flat whereas nearly all alpine ski bindings are ramped. The stand height under the heel is higher than under the toe, the difference can be as much as 9mm. It's well known that even small changes in the binding delta can affect fore/aft balance dramatically.
