Skiing holidays under £1000? (Everything included)?

Everything included means:
Flights
Transport
Accommodation
Ski pass
Skis
Possibly insurance

Extra detail
Me and 3 other friends want to go on a skiing holiday in the next 1 or 2 years instated of the usual 'lads holiday'. The only problem is we were going to go with our school but I suggested going on our own would be more fun and possibly cheaper. However, I haven't been able to find anything for less than GBP1200, the same price as the school one. If anyone knows how to ski for under GBP1000 each either organised individually or through a companies that would be sick
What have you looked at so far? And where are you travelling from? Where do you want to go?

GBP1000 per person is a generous budget.

Re:Skiing holidays under £1000? (Everything included)?

I looked at a few places in France. Like Le Deux Alpes, but I've been told places like Bulgaria and cheaper. We'd be travelling from any London aiport, probably Gatwick or Stansted. If I a preference I would go to Courchevel since I've been going there for 10 years with my parents, but I know that's ridiculously expensive

Why not look at Meribel? Much cheaper than Courchevel but same ski area.
What dates are you looking for?
You should be able to find a decent chalet with a 2 for 1 lift pass deal.

Re:Skiing holidays under £1000? (Everything included)?

I guess one of your problems is because you are tied to the school hols. The very nature of the beast means inflated prices at these times. Book flights early, try Swiss Air or BA etc as well as Easyjet and Ryan Air and I would aim for Geneva as there are literally stacks of places within easy reach from there. Meribel, Morzine, Chamonix as well as Aosta valley are all within 1 and half hours. Thought of going by train from Paris to Sauze or something like that. If you are in a public schhol that finishes early at Xmas why not do 10-20 Dec, it is usually cheaper then but ensure you get somewhere with a good snow record ...Montgenevre opens 29th nov and gets good early snow. I am sure you will find somewhere all in for your price but it does show what a good deal schools usually get as they include 4 hours of instruction per day...try adding that to any deal you get!!(everyone needs extra lessons unless they are Olympic standard!)
I agree that those couple of weeks before Christmas can throw up some real accommodation bargains. We go to a fabulous place in Austria at that time where we get top quality b&b for Euro35. Dinner is optional if you want, and it's not expensive.

Same just after new year, I'm doing Alpe D'Huez trip with catered chalet, lift pass, flights, transfers etc all for GBP650pp, much cheaper booking big group but you shouldn't need to pay that much more for 4 people.

Re:Skiing holidays under £1000? (Everything included)?

I think it would be unfair of me to share it publicly as it is organised by a friend who lives locally and the hotel has a limited number of rooms; however, it is a family run "Pension" and I believe the arrangement is not uncommon at that time of year. We stay in the Mittersill area which is not far from Zell am See. I'm pretty sure you would find something similar without too much trouble. Bus / car ride to the lift - not in a ski resort as such.

Re:Skiing holidays under £1000? (Everything included)?

We have been skiing 3 times in the 3 valleys for well under a grand. We've had to botch it together though, by that I mean booking flights, transport and accom individually. There are some good and bad points. The good is the price, as we haven't paid over GBP750 for everything (including food) but that also means we've self catered and took racks of meat from Costco in our bags.

Saying that, we have been there 3 times and done it 3 times, so we are clearly doing something right. We've been in catered chalets the last 4 years (not in the 3v) but if we do go back we would have no problem with not going through an agent again.

Hope this helps.

Steve.

Easy. My ski trips usually cost GBP1000 including all the above and food and drink as well.
GBP500-GBP600 main holiday catered board, GBP200 lift pass, GBP200 or so pocket money for drinks and snacks.

I have also taken a Club Med holiday for under GBP1000pp which is literally everything included, but that was a couple of years ago now and a special offer.

Re:Skiing holidays under £1000? (Everything included)?

Yup, have to agree with Tony. Skiing cost us GBP1,000 every trip whether we do DIY or with an operator. It is just a matter of research to find the best deals. The most important part is to find the right priced accommodation, flights are pretty much constant

Re:Skiing holidays under £1000? (Everything included)?

The strengthening UK/Euro exchange rate, is likely to mean even better DIY overall costs c/w T/Os.The T/Os tend to fix their costs early, often tied to a rate from a year ago.
Flight costs. I use points to get free flights, but return easyjet flights to Munich are GBP82, lower than the past two years. Plus GBP30 baggage.
Transfer cost, (train/taxi), unchanged in Euro price for 5 years, but 10% lower in GBP than 3 years ago. So now GBP64.
Accomodation, I pay Euro22/night, my share of an apartment, higher than this for my normal solo trip, since I take an apartment for myself. Add in some breakfast cost, this would be GBP170.
Dinners GBP70/week.
Lift pass GBP168

Total GBP584.00
That is not what I pay for a pass, since I always buy a large area season pass, either the AllStar or the Tirol, cost reduced by advanced purchase.

Even if you choose to go with a T/O, either buy your lift pass in resort, or on the transfer bus, after checking that you will get the local price. Hence Obergurgl is quoted at GBP226 in a brochure, but bought locally at today's exchange rate would cost GBP202.

Another benefit of DiY, is that you could travel on a Friday, and come back on on a Sunday, ie 8 days skiing rather than 6 days, reducing the cost/ski day. (In my case a week or two more)

Re:Skiing holidays under £1000? (Everything included)?

Interesting thread; I've had trips to Austria and to Switzerland in the last two seasons that cost well under GBP1,000. Flew Swiss to Geneva and BA to Innsbruck (both worked out much cheaper than Easyjet), advanced tickets booked online for rail tranfers, accommodation booked through resort travel offices ('locals' prices). Doing this gives you the flexibility to travel midweek to midweek, avoiding the airport crushes at either end!

Re:Skiing holidays under £1000? (Everything included)?

You should be fine with your budget pretty much everywhere. Just plan in advance. For 1000- 1500 pounds you can rent a 2 bedroom flat in the resort to share between the 4 of you and you will still have 2500-3000 pounds to pay for the rest.

Re:Skiing holidays under £1000? (Everything included)?

I'm booked for VDI in Feb for GBP920pp

That includes flights, transfers, chalet board, skis, full area lift pass

Chalet board means that most of spending money is included too as we get through their wine not our own pockets and lunch is often simply made up of leftovers from brekkie (actively encouraged by staff)

My flights are from NCL which is expensive on the supplements too

And there are cheaper spots than VDI to ski in (though its nowhere near as expensive as some make out)

You'll do it for under a grand easily (my first ski holiday with the lads cost us GBP350 each all in but that was a while ago and in Andorra which is not as cheap as it was)

Re:Skiing holidays under £1000? (Everything included)?

Pretty much every year we ski for around GBP1000pp including all those above. You need a deal on a catered chalet, BOGOF lift passes always help, and a decent tour op package. I have usually managed to get the main package (flights, transfers and catered) for between GBP350 and GBP600pp, sometimes GBP1 lift passes or something similar although not many of those about these days, so sometimes have to allow GBP20 for lift pass. Include GBP35 taking your own skis. Should not be hard to get it for GBP1000pp.

I've pushed the budget a little further this year to do an all in Club Med package, but then its proper 4 star and includes literally everything, with lessons/guiding if you want it. 2A currently available with Club Med md Jan for GBP1025pp. Cant go wrong.
