2015 where are you going?

Anyone booked up yet? Where are you thinking of going?

I'm looking forward to warming up the legs in Alpe D'Huez in January before ticking one off the bucket list with 10 days in Niseko Japan in February.

Going to need to get properly fit for this winter!

Sauze D'Oulx booked with the J2Ski bunch for Jan, and I am looking at Lech for either Xmas or Late Feb.

90% probable Livigno at the beginning of Feb. Friends have already booked, I just need to confirm if I want to go and sort out a room.

We have 16 days booked in Niederau, mid-January. Hmm, a big birthday for me. Maybe my 30th. ish. So heaps of friends, family, Kilts, Dirndls, Tirol and Scottish music.

Then a big family/friends group in March, probably Obergurgl, but could be another high Austrian resort.

Not sure about February, maybe mid-Feb for 9/10 days.

We're counting down the days to our Zermatt trip for New Year. Really looking forward to going back again.

2nd trip not booked but likely to be early Feb. On the possible list - Lech, Ischgl, 3V, Dolomites

3rd trip - maybe a late deal around Easter depending on snow conditions. Possibly Val d'Isere or maybe Val Thorens

Absolutely no plans whatsoever, and I am going to keep it like that until I have seen where the snow has fallen, and what late deals there are available.
Last season was a warning to me not to book in advance any more. Whenever I have been on a late booking it has been fabulous, as you're able to work out what conditions are like at time of booking and likely to be like when you're there. AND packages never sell out so there is ALWAYS a deal to be had.
Having said that, if the right deal comes up early for Dolomites then I may just bite the bullet and pray for another good Italian winter.

One thing is for sure - altitude is the key. Bad Gastein in January should have been spot on, but it just isn't high enough should the weather be unexpectedly poor.

Ski carriage fees are an order of magnitude more expensive on Japanese legs of many airlines, especially the national ones. There's powder everywhere but the resort terrain is less steep than you might be used to, so it's a bit pointless trying to cope on mid width skis if that's what your used to. Unless you ski something like a Rossi S7 I would hire something as fat as you can.

Also, dining is a bit hit or miss. As a general rule the further from the slopes in Hirafu, the better. It's a while since we went, but I remember J-Sekka as good. The traditional Japanese restaurant opposite the 7-11 style place on the main road through town has amazing Sushi.

Yes, I've suggested to all the skiers that we should all hire fat skis. Though we've got ski carriage for GBP50 each way including the internal flight so taking our own is also an option.

Some friends went a couple of years ago, so I have a list of recommended eateries.

One thing is for sure, the whole trip will be Go Pro'ed!

We are back off to Lech in 2015. Same place, same time and same chalet as last year. Does anyone else think this year is going really quickly? I'm not complaining, I can't wait!

Have just booked Dolomites for mid-term :mrgreen:. Was there 2 years ago and really enjoyed it :D. The skiing was great, people really friendly and prices that put most other resorts, especially in France to shame. Sorry, I forgot, French ski resorts have no shame :shock:.

If finances hold up, I will probably also look at long weekend, probably in mid-March :wink:.

Hi Gareth.

Yes, I have gone DIY. I am actually flying to Venice with Lufthansa through Frankfurt. It does involve changing planes but is very competitively priced (bags, including skis are included in the price) and total travel time is about 5 hours - a bit longer than a direct flight but I reckon you lose the travelling day anyway so no great issue with this. You could also fly with the lovely Ryanair to Bergamo, though the transfer will be longer (and more expensive).

I got a nice hotel through Booking.com. Its in Vigo di Fassa. Not directly on the Sella Ronda but reasonably close with regular skibus connections.

I am going out on the Saturday and back on the Sunday so will get 7 full days skiing :mrgreen:. Really looking forward to it - was there 2 years ago and had a fantastic time :wink:.

It used to be simpler when Aer Lingus flew direct to Venice but bizarrely, they only start the service to Venice in the middle of the mid-term week :shock:. Still it would be available for trips starting at the end of the mid-term :lol:.

I always do DIY too but usually just 3 or 4 day trips.
It's a lot harder from Dublin now as Ryanair don't fly regularly to Grenoble or Turin which really limits the options.
Still never been to Dolomites but hope to get there in March.

I wasn't meant to be going on a ski trip in 2015, as i WAS getting married in May. But my fiancee and I split up a few weeks ago :cry: The only good thing to come of that is i am now booking a skiing trip with the lads! May try St Anton....

Sadly only the one trip next year. Probably Les Deux Alpes at Easter. Taking the motorhome over again. Hopefully a couple of the kids will be able to make the trip. Then Florida in the summer courtesy of my parents timeshare. So can't really justify two ski holidays...............or just maybe if I can get a really cheap last minute somewhere.

I am hopefully going somewhere in PDS in January, however it will be a late booking I think as I am meant to be saving for a Wedding and honeymoon in 2015 and these things dont come cheap. I REALLY dont want to miss out on a ski season :oops:

booked tignes for january and have booked a flight for 2 weeks to denver in march. first week is confirmed in the steamboat grand and then 2nd week will be in snowmass to meet daughter and her new husband who live in arizona.

Simple solution if you don't mind delaying the Honeymoon......
Wedding January somewhere exotic - Ischgl, San Moritz, Zermatt maybe :)
Honeymoon March somewhere with romantic accomodation, private, log fires, hot tubs and things :thumbup:
Hope you notice this is cost effective as missing the main holiday periods - should be easily sold to NewMrsIcy ??????

Oh, and I am going to Sauze d'Oulx with the others, 11th - 18th January, staying in the Sauze hotel :)

But I'm going on the train. Luckily there's a direct train from Paris to Oulx station which is only something like 10 minutes from Sauze. I haven't done this journey before, but it doesn't look any harder than going to the 3 valleys, or Tignes, by the indirect route - Eurostar followed by French train, with a change of stations in Paris.

Hellooooooooooooo!!!!!! It's been SO long since I've been on here I've forgotten who everyone is. Anyhoo, we were going to go to Val D, but have decided that since my last unsuccessful trip to La Plagne didn't result in much skiing, we're going back to finish it off :)

No, I'm not bothering to go to Tignes this autumn, Nelly. Last year it was so windy on the glacier that we hardly got any ski-ing :(

You should be fine as you can always go up to Avoriaz, we love Morzine and the Porte Du Soleil, going back again Jan 15.

Seems to be the time people are making bookings, so why buck the trend?
Me and my little gang have decided to go back and smash St Moritz again after 4 years. Got a great deal making it affordable, in fact GBP for GBP it worked out roughly the same all told as a cheapy to La Thuile that we were about to book, when I "broadened the search criteria"

Massively looking forward to skiing a deserted ski area again with first class facilities.

Returning to Hemsedal for Feb half term. DIY'ing for the first time and very excited. Also, driving in Norway for the first time. I'm excited, the rest of the family isn't! Cannot wait for six days and three nights of skiing. And may be some early mornings this year.

:shock: Amazing how things change in just a few months.

Livigno is out, as is the planned Christmas trip, but I am now booked to go to Soll first week of March as well as the Sauze trip.

May just have to pop over to N for a day while in Soll to see what all the fuss is about :)

Soll early March - that sounds like a brave choice to me, taking into account potential weather/snowfall etc. I'd really like to have a crack at this area but just don't feel confident enough to book up in advance. Can you tell me different?

Flights to Geneva booked for December 11th but we will wait to see where the good conditions are the week before deciding where to go.

The maximum snow depths seem to peak late Feb, so given the restrictions I have from work March is when we will be going, and I need to book now. If the weather is rough, then so be it, equally, we could end up with blue skies and decent fresh snow.

As for N, I will be driving out there, so as it is just down the road, may be worth a drive to see what all the fuss about the place is, good or bad. At least it could give me personal perspective on other peoples comments.

Wise man, FQ, keeps the options open.
Since you have a car, perhaps consider buying a KitzbuhelAllstar pass. This is the minimum season pass I now buy.

Niederau is just 12 minutes away from Hopfgarten. The "fuss" you mention, is mostly created by others, some who do not understand much about skiing or snow conditions. Two of the three main runs have been FIS downhills, Martin and Graham Bell raced here, and just about every Austrian team member has trained in the race arena.

I only go there because no one objects to my banjo playing!

And in January, there will a number of people skiing in kilts... just sayin!

From Soell, with the KAS pass you can ski a huge area, including some really beautiful mountain areas, and interesting Tirol villages.

I have finally sorted my accommodation in Verbier, so will be skiing there again. But next season I am thinking of switching to Chamonix. A trip to Hakuba also appears increasingly tempting.

I've just booked Bormio for New Year. Fly out on the 26th with my wife and two friends. World Cup on the 28th accompanied by lots of cow bells and hot wine!

Back on the 2nd and away again on the 10th to Alpe D'Huez with my school pupils.

can't wait for both!

I hate you, Iceman! I was trying to avoid the "No Of Days" countdown for my trip to Val d'Isere, but now I know it's 92 sleeps away! :evil:

Still, less then 100 so I should be thankful for small mercies. :P

PS: Val d'Isere, 31 January for me. I cannae wait - I have unfinished business with the Face De Bellevarde...

Going to Tignes early January had to pick a sure snow holiday as i am coming from Australia to meet up with my best freind of 47 years.... we went to Aviemore on my last visit to uk for a quick break .... NO SNOW

Much against my normal practice, last night I booked the Hotel Boton D'Or in La Thuile for a week from March 2. Have return flights to Geneva for GBP35 and transfer for 100 Euros - very decent deal!

Although I contemplated Old Andy's sound advice to go for divorce, I refrained and we're now booked to go back to Madonna di C for 2nd week of March ... yay!
