Winter 2014/15 opening dates?

Seeing as I am back from my summer holidays I think it is time to start to planning for my first ski trip. We usually go to France in mid December for a few days and am looking to do something a bit different if possible this year. I have been looking at opening dates for next winter but am getting very little information so far.
Anyone know where I should be looking?

Very few (if any) resorts will have announced firm opening dates as yet. We usually start collating them in late summer when they start getting announced.

If you check our resort pages (e.g. http://www.j2ski.com/ski_resorts/France/Chamonix.html ), under "X Season Dates", we indicate the usual approximate dates for the major resorts.

As soon as we start getting a few dates in, I'll post an update here.

Obviously keep in mind that planned opening dates tend to move around a bit depending on the snows. Quite a few ski areas can open a week or two earlier than planned - at least for weekends - if they get the snow and, likewise, can postpone opening if the snows are late (per some areas in Oz and NZ at the moment).

...and, yes, it's about 5 months too early to be making predictions about the coming season's snow... 8)

Cheers Admin, I thought as much but just getting some early planning ideas. I will most likely end up in the 3 valleys again or Tignes anyway.

Not until tomorrow, Andy.
However, I think you are spot on, it will be another GREAT winter, with snow right through from October until May, everywhere, and with sunny days every day, and snowfall only through the nights.

Ok. it is mid-June, so, on the way to winter. My first 16 days in Niederau are already booked.
How else can a person celebrate the onslaught of winter? ~~~

Just bumping this... the official (planned) opening dates are coming in thick-and-fast now, and we'll be updating our pages as they come in.

For quick reference, here are the latest sets of ski area opening dates (with a rough indication like 'Mid December' where we're still waiting) :-

Austria
France
Italy
Swizerland

And for your optimal browsing pleasure, you can sort the tables by opening (or closing) dates to see where's opening first.

We expect to add a few hundred more season dates over the next month or so. 8)

All the TO's have opening dates.
So presumably this discussion is only about diy?
