Help - trip to La Grave and Val D' Isere

Im trying to put together a 1 week trip to ski in France: 3 ski days in La Grave and 3 days in Val D' Isere. I'll be flying into Geneva from the US.

What would be the best travel options after I fly into Geneva?

Thanks!

Renting a car would be your best bet.
I'm not aware of any realistic public transport - train/bus etc - links that could work for you.
You have a long journey between resorts, don't forget that mountain passes are closed during the winter so don't be fooled by mapping software!

Re:Help - trip to La Grave and Val D' Isere

Andy's about covered it... a car will also give you more flexibility to change your plans at short notice.

It's not unknown for La Grave to be stormbound for a day or two. Alpe d'Huez and Les Deux Alpes are easily accessible by car from there and Serre Chevalier will give you bad weather/tree skiing options as long as you can cross the Col du Lauteret.

Car's definitely the easiest option for getting from there to Val d'Isere too.

When are you going?

Re:Help - trip to La Grave and Val D' Isere

Andy and Admin are dead right about getting a rental car for this proposed trip. But, if you are happy to do Val d'Isere bear in mind that you can get fairly regular bus services from Geneva airport-takes about 2 to 3 hours. Also, once in Val you will also have the connection to Tignes and also within a short distance the LaPlagne and Les Arcs area more than enough skiing for 6 days. I also agree that La Grave can be shut from time to time-one main lift only accessing very difficult off piste runs with the local advice being to take a guide with you. Best of luck.

Re:Help - trip to La Grave and Val D' Isere

You would have to use a car, the only viable route is via Grenoble and it takes about 3-4 hours and is about 150 miles...the d1091 is a reasonable road and is generally open...did it in February

The bus from geneva to Val d'isere is more like 3 to 4 hours. We've managed 3 hours using a private transfer.
