Ours is all washed and packed too.....sadly until next season. Definitely going to take the motorhome again next Easter. Fab trip, Les Deux Alpes was amazing and the campsite was lovely. -)

I like it that it's not just me with an emergency ski pack. The lovely town of Lech awaits next year once again but first it's Sri Lanka with the wife and boy. Not a ski slope in sight over there....get a grip Sri Lankan government!

Skis are summer waxed and stored away ....... most of my other kit has been washed and hung in my ski wardrobe..... A terrible time of year, pretty much booked during the summer might be able to get away for a couple of weekend breaks :(

Sadly, I am going to have to do my first "summer" holiday in over 5 years :( I have got to attend a wedding in Malta in August :shock:

However, to make up for it, I am now planning to spend Christmas in the Alps :)

Given the option every trip would be a ski trip, summer and winter. But i have 2x females to consider.
Planned trips are Camping in Devon at the end of may and then camping in The Vendee, France in August.
We like to be a bit frugal in the summer which enables more holidays, we target 5 trips a year, 2 Ski, 2 camping and 1 beach via air.

Next year we have Jan Ski in the first week (not sure where yet) and VT booked for easter. we will be taking a sun holiday at feb half term, prob canaries. I can't face feb half term be ruined by crowds and high prices.

2 beach holidays minimum requirement: couple of weeks end of June when its hot, long evenings, cheap and no kids about, in order to prepare for the long busy summer ahead, and then a week away mid September to recharge after working flat out long hours July to September. And then its time to think about skiing.....

I feel like am skied-out for the season and ready to pack skis but snow keeps coming back. Big snow is expected for the weekend again when all I want is a BBQ with rose on a sunny terrace. Not a good sign for May, so typical - it gets cold and rainy once the lifts start to close. This is the time of the year when snow in the forecast doesn't bring much excitement...

In august I will be on ski slopes, chairlifts and hopefully bluebird days. Morzine in the summer is a great place :)

We went to Morzine last summer, absolutely beautiful. Stunning scenery, only downside was the amount of noisy crickets and grasshoppers...I am terrified of them!!!!!!! Would definitely return :mrgreen:

Camping ....at home in Devon most of the summer, bit of cricket and beach thrown in. Then off to Cote D'Argent south of Bordeaux for a month for sun,surf, lots of bass fishing and the odd glass of plonk. Garden with be dead on return as son is a dedicated gardener, not. Never mind, 3 ski trips in planning for next season, one with school, possible join up with J2Ski in Jan and another TBD. Its tough :)

Morzine is part of a big European road trip. Driving to Spa for the Grand Prix then on to morzine and back home via Reims staying in a big posh chateau.

Should be a good summer :)

Gear may be washed and packed away but it's just regaining its strength for the next season ... ;0)

I plan to enjoy the summer here and keep an eye on the webcams.

Plus, I always think that the summers are so short for those who rely on the mountain pastures for their living - being an Alpine farmer must be hell! You're constantly clock-watching to gain grazing, get the new calves and lambs going, turn them out, put aside grassland for hay and winter forage, gather it in and then before you can blink the damn snow comes down again and you're in for many long months of feeding, watering and mucking out.

Very perceptive, Penelope. Towards the end of my first season, I was offered a summer job, working at my friend Herbert's mountain farm.I respectfully declined,figuring that I would generate more income as a contract engineering designer in one week, than I would earn in a whole summer working in the Alm.

Fast forward to last winter when I caught up with a fellow instructor from my time, he now spends his summer doing exactly what I was offered. His wife visits him at weekends.

Oh dear! Started to plan my next year's skiing, by booking flight to Innsbruck, as I have done at this time for several years, and B*gg*r me if the fares aren't three times the price this time!!! :cry:

It'll be the usual for me. Wait until about 2-3 months before we go. May well for Easter next year. I quite fancy Christmas but the family will most likely veto that idea. Shame!

Bloody Crystal screwed me AGAIN.

A short one line email reading:
"Please find attached letter of accommodation change for your ski booking due to loss of contract. Please advise us how you wish to proceed with the booking by 10/06/14."

So for the second time crystal have taken my money, confirmed my holiday and then cancelled my accommodation. What is the point in booking early if they do this crap?

Suggest you go on their FB page, and start a thread "DO NOT BOOK EARLY WITH CRYSTAL"
1. second experienced change of itinery.
2. arbitrary date of response.
3.Certainty changed to uncertainty.

I like Crystal, but I do not hesitate to pull up any of these guys. We will pile in after you.

Crap happens but its how you deal with it that counts.....right?

Crystal came through for us and we got upgraded by one star and one bedroom, can't grumble at that.
I spoke to a very nice lady called Hailey who apologised and worked her magic.

I'm one happy marmot.

But there are risks with DIY Ian.

For our summer holidays i always DIY but with winter in the mountains being unpredictable i like the security of a TO. The last thing i want is to be stuck behind a snow blocked road and miss my ryanair/jet2/easyjet flight, if that happens you are on your own. At least with a TO you are guaranteed a return journey without additional expense.

Dave, last year our flight was delayed by 3hrs waiting for a coach load of passengers from La Rosiere, road not cleared, we were well pissed off.
Would a scheduled flight have waited? Not a chance.

The ash cloud not so long back?

Crap happens all the time and I'm only willing to take the risk for big savings. I paid 1600 for 3 people in school holidays, i doubt DIY will get that cheap enough to be worth the chance.

I'm with Snapzzz on the reason I prefer TO's in the winter.
Christmas three years ago UK had a lot of snow - at Stansted there were hundreds (yes - I was told 400 people +) didn't get away for their Xmas break because of Easyjet cancellations.
Our charter left on time.
Last year - stuck in Turin for 6 hours as our plane was Mullered (technical term - not sure what it means?) but Titan flew an extra out from the UK to rescue us.

Been DIYing for years never had a problem ... Book a flight, Book an apartment and book a car :)
