Anyone selling a good quality double ski bag?

Hi, anybody selling a good quality double ski bag?
Me and the girlfriend have just got brand new skis (we are so excited!!!!!) so we are looking for a good ski bag that will keep our precious little babies nicely wrapped up and safe from the baggage handlers.
Would preferably be looking for a padded and wheeled bag. Longest skis are 163cm.

Re:Anyone selling a good quality double ski bag?

Hi Doug

Great news, new skis.

My honest advice is not to buy a ski bag but buy a ski tube (look on the internet, Snow & Rock etc.). The baggage handlers, most times, just hurl your skis out of the back of the plane and a bag gives very little protection (broken bindings are not that uncommon). The cost of transporting your tube is the same as a bag and they come with wheels and can be secured with a padlock. More expensive than a ski bag but totally effective. Good luck.

Re:Anyone selling a good quality double ski bag?

My advice would be don't buy a double bag, they're very heavy and IMO you're better off with one each, pack your ski kit around the bindings / tips etc. I have a double ski bag that is wheeled, padded and reinforced at the tips and tails and a lot of airlines are putting a 12kg weight limit on ski kit so a couple of times my ski bag has been overweight, fortunately the friends we travel with have always been under so as a group we've been under :)

Re:Anyone selling a good quality double ski bag?

I have a Big Air double ski bag, a really good bag triple padded, and a bargain at GBP30 a few years back. However, having carted 2 pairs of skis a couple of times, I definitely dont recommend it. Plus many airlines now impose a weight limit and 2 pairs of skis would put that over. I still use the double bag, but just put my own skis in a shed load of outdoor clothing, never weighs more than the 15kg limit that now appears to be coming into force.
Some airlines may ask you to open your bag and charge you per pair of skis and not per bag. MAY being unlucky of course.

Re:Anyone selling a good quality double ski bag?

Oh if only it was so easy. Extract from current conversation with Crystal when telling them I was taking more than 1 set of ski equipment in the bag:-

"I am afraid that you will not be able to take these in the one bag. 2 ski carriages will need to be booked as the airline's policy is 1 set or skis and board per ski carriage and they will need to be in separate bags weighing no more than 15kg each".

I have responded by asking if the bag weighs no more than 15kg, what does it matter what is in it?
Still waiting for Crystal response.
I'm a bit miffed with them though, I take 3 ski hols a year with Crystal, so I see this as opportunist profiteering. Added to this, Crystal now only have a premium rate number to get into contact with them, even if you are just booking. This says to me that they don't care about customer service and are more interested in using customers as cash cows.

This grab of a few extra quid by them could end up costing them more than GBP4k per year as I won't be using them again unless I get a favorable response to my questions.
Re:Anyone selling a good quality double ski bag?

Doug, you really need to learn to be cuter ;-)

If your bag weighs less than 15kg then you don't need to tell crystal you are carrying 2 sets of skis as they clearly state the bag limit is 15kg.

However. Their policy clearly states ONE set of skis per bag, so if you DO get caught out somehow then expect to pay an extra GBP35 for he sec set as you're flouting their rules. Yes it stinks of profiteering, but is be going on the 2 sets in 1 bag and not letting on personally, as all they do is weigh them at check in mate.

Re:Anyone selling a good quality double ski bag?

I've never had anyone ask to look in my ski bag at check in, so as far as I'm concerned, as long as the ski bag weighs no more than 15kg where is the issue? Of course I wouldn't be advertising the fact that I'm planning on doing them out of GBP35 :)

Re:Anyone selling a good quality double ski bag?

I suggest buying ski tubes instead. There are lots of high quality but reasonably priced ski tubes out there. I usually buy from waterskiersworld (http://www.waterskiersworld.com/category-list/toweables/tubes.html) You may want to check it out.

At GBP80/GBP90 return the cost compares favourably with the more expensive extra baggage airlines.

Compares favourably with ordinary courier prices too. Can see that being worthwhile, especially if you've got - for example - a herd of kids and bags to get through the airport anyway, or worries about fitting all your gear in the hire car / transfer bus. Very often there's a separate drop-off / collection for ski bags so you're saving extra time there too.

Like all things; if you can afford it, and it's useful, then it's good value!

Re:Anyone selling a good quality double ski bag?

Last time I moved skis to a resort used my brothers garden furniture umbrella cover. Place some clothes around your skis and good to go. Reality is after 1st hr your skis will have some cosmetic damage, so anything that protects edges and base is sufficient.
