New Year struggle...

1st post here, please bear with me

Wanting to book a break over the new year & just bamboozled by the choice - crikey never thought it would be this hard to make a decision.

Going away with my lovely wife - she is beginner & me probably beginner / intermediate. 'Good snow' is top of the list along with variety of choice (went to Arinsal in feb last year which was fairly limited, although great fun), followed by a nice town / vibe. Not too concerned about cost as long as it isn't ridiculous. Can anyone recommend a place that meets the spec? Just think I am max'd out looking at ski reports, forums, last year, this year - uuuurrrrggggghhhh.. :)

Re:New Year struggle...

Another vote for Alpe d'Huez (having skied there 4 times over the years) We once went as a party of 12 for New Year, with an age range of 10 to 65 and everyone had a great time. Those of us who didn't party too hard on NY Eve virtually had the slopes to ourselves on NY Day! I might add that my own children who were late teens at the time, didn't actually make it out onto the slopes at all that day! I think there is a torchlit descent by the ski instructors followed by an excellent firework display.

Re:New Year struggle...

Try Italy, far cheaper than France, better or as good food, no snotty french manners or above themself ESF "guiders". Aosta valley was epic , lots to do, try La Thuile and get a direct comparison by skiing to La Rosiere

Re:New Year struggle...

If you want high altitude skiing, rustic charm, quiet pistes try Champoluc in the Monterosa area of Italy.
Also recommend Alpe d'Huez.
Les 2 Alpes may be worth a look although I havent been.
Also consider Austria, Soll gets a great rep for beginners and is linked into a bigger area as well - Austria is a happy jolly place to ski. And cheaper.
