V early season skiing 2013/14 - which resort?

Hi all,

I've switched jobs and ended up with a gap for 1-30 November. I'm itching to ski but my knowledge of 'what's good' is probably totally irrelevant at this time of year. I've seen papers, websites etc recommending Ischgul, Zermatt, amongst others.

Am interested to know if anyone has a good pointer on a decent resort at this time of year? To be honest it would be a v relaxed trip as I'd probably end up travelling solo and just brushing up technique / breaking in a new pair of touring boots. As a result, I don't mind if the resort is small and I'm repeating runs; it's more important that the snow is ok!

Thanks for any thoughts.

Dave

You're going to need a glacier.
Tignes, for example, Glacier open but ski area doesn't open until 30th November.

Mind you if you are into touring and going uphill there could be some lovely snow on runs that aren't serviced by running lifts.
We are spending a week in the Tignes glacier and expecting to ski every day. Apparently there will be 2-6 runs available depending on snowfall .

Re:V early season skiing 2013/14 - which resort?

Thanks guys. For Tignes - where is best to stay then? From the Piste Map is looks like Val Claret or Tignes Le Lac are the closest villages to the lifts that access the glacier. Does anyone have any experience in Austria at this time of year? I've not been so was hoping there'd be a good spot there...?

Re:V early season skiing 2013/14 - which resort?

Nowhere in the northern hemisphere will have much open in November. Tignes probably as good as anywhere. Need to stay in Val Claret and ride the funicular to the glacier.
May not be much open in the village then though!
