Ski resorts you can stay less than a week ???

We are going to Solden ,Austria next year but had real trouble finding affordable accommodation that would take us for only 5 days and forget a Thursday - tuesday ,had to be sunday onwards .
Is this the same for all Austrian and French resorts???

We've been to Andorra and italy and never come across this problem ,we could start any day and stay any length of time we wanted

Just thinking about 2015 options

No. Well, not for France IME anyway. 8)

Although it can be an issue for peak weeks - with hotels and accommodation that rely on package Tour Operators, it's not difficult to find flexible accommodation nowadays.

Independent Chalets, some of the smaller tour operators, and local Hotels are generally very, er, accommodating. You'll definitely improve your chances by looking beyond the mega-resorts and going where the Tour Operators don't.

The majority of our trips in recent years have been mid-week to mid-week (makes a massive difference to flight prices - even/especially in the high season weeks).

When are you looking to travel?

Agree about avoiding the big resprts and trying to find somewhere the TO's don't go to. This may necessitate a car, but not necessarily. Reason for saying this, is that guest houses and small hotels a few kilometres away from the nearest gondola will be at less of a premium, and therefore, more flexible, than those right on the slopes. They may also tend to be in places you won't have heard of, so research is needed. Happy hunting !

Not sure yet,we normal go feb/march before or after English half term.
We normally look at flight prices first and go from there .It was between france and austria this year but Austria looked cheaper at first glance. We've only been sking the past few years The first 3 years we went to Pas de la case and Sestriere last year but i hate going on holiday to the same place twice .but was concidering going back to Italy after the trouble trying to find suitable accomation .Luckily we've got a place 200 meters from the Gaislachkogl gondola each with our own rooms .
Maybe looking a France next year ,if anyone got some suggestions
Mainly reds or blues
Near a ski lift
Not to many drags for the Boarders
A pub or 2 to watch a bit of football
wont break the bank

thanks

Re:Ski resorts you can stay less than a week ???

The vast majority of my ski holidays have been short breaks and it is easy enough to do.
The first and most important question is....Where can you get the best flights to? I always try to get a very early or very late flight time so as to be on the slopes for a half day on the first or last day.give us a couple of airport options and I am sure that I and others here can give you some good ideas.

Re:Ski resorts you can stay less than a week ???

Geneva is great for Morzine/Avoriaz and only an hour drive. Check the resort web site for hotels that will do short stay.
Meribel or La Tania in the 3 Valleys are about another hours drive away but there is short stay in both laces too.
Grenoble is very close to Les Deux Alpes where there is plenty of short stay B&B'S accomodation and hotels. Or Alp'd Huez is another one but there is less short stay accomodation
Munich and drive to St. Anton in Austria.
Turin is very close to Sauze and the Milky Way.
Milan Milpensa is within two hours of Cervina.
I have skied all of theses places for 3/4/5 days and found accomodation easily enough.

Re:Ski resorts you can stay less than a week ???

Cervina was ok. Great little town and some great Italian food but the skiing was only average. When we were there it was -15 to -20 most days and a few of the higher lifts we closed because of wind.
Most of the slopes were wide open easy reds but the skiing in Zermat is excellent if you can manage the link.
It's ok for three or four days but there is far better resorts.

Fly into Geneva and take your pick from the Grand Massif resorts. We're happy to mix weeks with weekenders
