I am booking my January holiday this weekend to go skiing in Val Thorens

For the first time me and my OH are going to stay in a chalet. I have been looking at them with Crystal & Inghams and it seems there is a big difference in facilities. One of the biggest things is that a few of the chalets have shower/bathroom en suite but the WC in a corridor either shared or private.

Is it the exception or the norm that chalets have WC that are shared/in the corridor rather than en suite?

En suite is the norm these days, though some companies are a bit behind the rest.

I think the shared loo thing is okay if you are a lrage group and booking out the whole of the chalet, but for just the two of you sharing with other guests you don't know, defo en suite.

As Andyhull says, most are ensuite now, though still some shared facilities around, you've just got to do your homework and really look at the room descriptions before you book.

Never go to a chalet unless its en suite. Youre asking for all sorts of trouble ;-)

the one I am fancying now is all en suite. countdown starts on the weekend when I book it :-)

En suite with balcony!! Must be champagne welcome followed by a chocolate on your pillow. Do it in style-well done!!

If you are looking at Les Balcons in Val T, I stayed there when it was First Choice (its Crystal now). Most the bedrooms had en-suite with toilet, except one which had to use the shared WC off the lounge. Wasn't ideal for the unlucky allocation.

I always make sure it's full en-suite if its a mixed 'stranger' chalet.

I liked Val Thorens but walking up that hill is a killer at that altitude.

You can ski back to the Balcons buildings, it's got it's own little semi-pisted bit which comes off the Plein Sud run.

Never did that bit on ski's because we were staying in the central part (up the moving carpet) but we did venture up there one evening for a beer without ski boots on and it nearly killed me! I would go back though as I really liked the resort but I believe all the catered chalets are in that top bit? So we may have to investigate Balcons.

Yes, there's a path down to the main run through town, suitable for all abilities. The people in the background on the right have just left the boot room. The path zig-zags down to the run.

That'll be the bottom of the return from meribel/les men in the Centre left - the hard right over the bridge and change in underski conditions always seems to cath me out when I'm tired at the end of a day all the way over to Courchevel 1650 and back

Never stayed at Balcons but have heard people rave about the accom - every time Ive been to VT Ive had beginners with me and didnt fancy the drop in to the chalets from the bottom of Plein Sud - looked a little icy and steep for a first week-er but might try it myself this year just so I can see what its actually like
