Becoming a skiing instructor

Afternoon all,
I was wondering if anyone knows any good websites or anyone I could speak to regarding a ski instructor course in the Wildschoenau region of Austria. I have 14 weeks skiing under my belt but would now like to start teaching people how to ski aswell as perfecting my technique!
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Sepp Schellhorn is the owner of the 1st Wildschoenau Ski School in Niederau in the Wildschonau. He has a FB page and the ski school are on there as well (it's on as Schschule Wildschonau (The Reds). My friend's wife learnt to ski in Niederau and is now an instructor there... I think they said that the course is about 8 weeks, learning how to teach skiing and learning German because I think you have to be able to teach a little bit in German to be able to pass the course, but I might be wrong. Plus, Dave Mac on here is the resident Niederau expert and was also an instructor for Sepp. My hubby and I learnt to ski with this ski school and they're fantastic. We love Niederau, we go back every year and in summer too. Hope this helps.

Top man, you are planning to turn a great dream into a reality! I'm sure you will enjoy the experience.

Good advice from Ski Girl ~ (who is a lovely skier). Sepp would be a good start point, and he is on FB. If that doesn't work for you, am happy to get in touch with Sepp and check he is happy for me to give you his mobile number.

You are almost certainly going to need to qualify for the Anwarter. For this, you will need to take a course in Austria, The course is in German, so you will need to be reasonably fluent. I don't think the free skiing is too big an issue. the focus is on teaching.

Generally, you might be expect the course to be 10 to 14 days.

In Tirol, there are courses based around the Kitzbuhel area, normally, I think Kirchberg.

I have heard that courses in Salzburgerland are a bit more English speaking friendly ~ possibly with course material being in English, and German lessons. But you have to bite the bullet, because all testing will be conducted in German.

You may get a surprise on the course~ sometimes there are big skier names on the course staff!
You have raised an interesting subject. I will message some of my teacher friends, to find out more.

In the Tirol area,the main body is Snowsport Tirol. They have recognised the issue, and have included in some courses, Engish/German. You do have to learn the Deutsch, and I'm sure it will be tough, when added on top of the ski instruction activity.

Thanks for this. Guess it would help to learn some German before starting. Might consider it for a long term plan... Really like the idea!

Kiwi, I'm not a fan of long term plans.....

You can learn a lot of German in a short time. In my first season,our house owners spoke no English, and breakfast was accompanied by a liberal addition of dictionary and "learn Deutsch" books. Since then, I have made a point of staying in places where English is not spoken

You might investigate with the course directors what their expectations would be, and the reasonableness of starting off bare feet.

You can get a long way with a handful of verbs, many of the words are similar, and most of the technical words are the same.

Get on with it!
