Hells Belles Nordica skiis

Just bought some at last but it was an impulse buy so didn't research it very well - was at the mercy of the young (very well informed) lad in Snowfit Norwich.
Anyone like them?
All I know so far is they are slow on dry slope!
But if they give me added control that can only be a Good Thing :) There were some comments from instructors at the ski club about them being wide and someone called them 'bloomin planks ' haha
(they were too wide to fit in their bench slots in the changing room!)
I said I wanted an on and off piste ski and this was described as a good all mountain ski.
Any thoughts?

Re:Hells Belles Nordica skiis

I had a look on the Nordica site and this is what they said about those skis:

Description:
The HELL'S BELLES is made for expert level women looking for a ski that offers great flexibility in soft snow and versatile conditions with a lively response and predictable rebound. Effortless in powder or crud, this ski will hold a solid edge on groomers. Made of a wood core, its light weight construction - the ski features the Wi-CORE construction (Women's i-CORE version), making it 25% lighter - the HELL'S BELLES delivers perfect performance in all conditions and even allows the avid skier to have fun exploring every part of the mountain.
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS:

Construction: ENERGY Ca wi-core
Cam Rock: Early Rise
Sizes (cm)	154	162	170	178
Sidecut	132-90-118	132-90-118	132-90-118	132-90-118
Radius (m)	15	16	17	19
Weight - gr. cm2	1740cm2/0,72gr.	1830cm2/0,76gr.	1921cm2/0,80gr.	2011cm2/0,84gr.

http://www.nordica.com/products/hells-belles/

I didn't know you were an expert skier! I am most impressed!

I'm not sure you should be trying them out on a dry slope. I'm sure someone on here said dry slopes are bad for skis! Snowdomes are OK though - because the snow is pretty much like real snow :)

Re:Hells Belles Nordica skiis

Haha clearly I'm not an expert although it always amuses us in Scotland when we use lifts that say 'experts only' for blues and reds. (probably only refers to the sometimes hazardous lift up that you feel like you are skiing up sometimes and is harder than the ride down.
I wanted an all mountain ski and this is what they came up with. (had a good reduction)
What do you think? Would appreciate an opinion I know no body in the ski world .

Re:Hells Belles Nordica skiis

Thanks ian. I know the club entrance fee covers club skiis so that would be no problem but I was hoping to get used to my new skiis there. Not much point really as they dragged a lot on the dry slope and were just frustrating. Thanks for the offer though,

You should use a special kind of wax for dry slopes, but I would seriously say test them out at a snowdome to save further damage.
http://www.edgeandwax.co.uk/110/dryslope_and_indoor_ski_and_snowboard_waxes.aspx

wow thanks Ian, I wonder why Snowfit didnt tell me that!
I am going to use their skis from now on at the club. Do you go on a Friday?
Where is our nearest snowdome?
Cheers,

Nearest snowdome to us is Milton Keynes, make sure you clean your binding as that white stuff that squirts out on the slope coats them and just check your bases for any damage.
I have let my membership run out although my daughter keeps nagging me to rejoin, so rejoining does seem on the cards but as part of concerted fitness drive to try and build the muscles around my knees.
As for snow fit I have used them for many years and I have always found them very helpful, Mrs W brought some boots from them last year and I was impressed by the customer service they offered her.

Re:Hells Belles Nordica skiis

The Nordica Helles Bells and similar skis from other manufacturers are designed for skiing on soft snow so they don't work very well on hard snow or hard surfaces like artificial ski slopes.

Nordica skis are usually quite stiff and at 90mm under foot the Helles Bells will take some work to get them from edge to edge. Compare how the lady in these video clips skis on the Helles Bells and the Wild Belle, look at how much easier the Wild Belle is to ski in the moguls and how much further up on edge she can get them compared with the Helles Bells.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VttdVha0rnc

Probably not the best ski for someone with dodgy knees. Be very careful especially if the snow is hard.
Re:Hells Belles Nordica skiis

Thanks. I had a look. Couldn't see a big difference but I take your point _ 6 cms difference in foot width will affect performance somewhat. I guess but maybe stability will be a plus. I don't ski fast
I was told a good all mountain Ski that is good on all conditions so fingers crossed.
Cheers

Re:Hells Belles Nordica skiis

The snowdome at hemel is probably nearest..but I find good tho it is, theres not much pressure on the skis to really work them as the slope is quite gentle ! Have a go and see if you agree.

Cheers
I am having six days in the alps this month and I'm a good old weight so i expect I'll soften them quickly.
Was just interested in where I could find real(pretend real) snow in the uk. I'll definitely be visiting in warner climes . Is it open all year?
