Book now for 2014 for good rates or wait for last minute deals?

Getting tempted by some of the 2014 holiday offers around at the moment.... This years prices with more reductions plus free lift passes etc....
Does it still make more sense to wait for last min deal next march? Going in a group of six next march/April.
Advice appreciated!

Group of 6?

Book now if you can afford it. The offers late are all based on 1 room or last 2 seats on a flight.

Thanks - still mulling this over.
We had settled on first week of April as schools not out that early next easter but unis are... Then I realized what if it's not heavy snow that late like this year? Or is there guaranteed snow at high altitudes in some places even in April?
Alternative would be to go first week in jan but I have heard it can be serious cold then.....
What would you do given the choice?
Would like to book ASAP really.

Jan.....just wrap up. It's the cheapest month and often the quietest.
Re:Book now for 2014 for good rates or wait for last minute deals?

If you have a favourite resort/hotel/apartment/chalet book it now as you can be sure that with six of you it will be second or third choice if you leave it that late. Also, if you are booking your own flights you can already get dood deals with BA, and with the other airlines all coming on line for 2014 bookings within the next three months.

Re:Book now for 2014 for good rates or wait for last minute deals?

Flights for half-term aren't good though. Flew BA to Salzburg this year for half-term, a family of 4 was GBP800, just looked for next year and it quotes GBP2482.

Same flights 1 week earlier then family of 4 = GBP489

Looked at other airlines into Geneva, Munich etc.. same story.

If you are booking outside school term times great bargin flights, if you have to go school term times it means that driving could be the best option, so I think I will be Driving again next year!

Only possibility will be Easyjet when they release their schedule later in the year

Looked at package deals, same problem over GBP1000 per head without lift passes, ski's, lessons etc... This year did the lot for GBP3700, eating out every night and lunchtime, passes, lessons, car hire, flights.

Is there a set date for them to come on line - like a certain number of months prior to the flight date, or something? It would be nice to be able to catch them before prices start climbing.

BA, Swiss, Lufthansa all allow booking 355 days in advance so quite a few available now.

January Heathrow/Geneva return = GBP128

Huwcyn-Flight dates for Easyjet, et al, usually 9 months in advance, but unfortunately you have to check on a regular basis as sometimes they vary their dates. Is there an APP that would text us when airline advance dates open up? Anyone in the know?

Actually, Colpam, for our 10th Feb flight this year we paid on the 30th March last year which is actually over 11 months before, but I suspect we didn't get the best prices. I wondered whether we could book it earlier this year, and get the lowest prices

I totally agree with booking early, and for January. Because it's the quietest, the best deals are out there.....2-4-1 ski passes, etc..... oh, and it's something to look forward to!!!!

I wouldnt gamble on early April for an early booking.
January is my favourite time to go: often cold and sunny but pretty much guaranteed snow almost anywhere.
I've had -25c in December in Val Thorens, and -17c in Serre Chevalier in March so the temp shouldnt be an issue for you, expect cold and layer up, so you can take off if it warms up.
Jan is deathly quiet, if you pick the right resorts of course, and the bonus is its cheap as well.
As has been mentioned, some good 241 lift pass deals which are worth between GBP100 and GBP150 depending on where you want to go.

Book soon.. as VAT rates in France set to go up... so will prices. Look at ski area for early booking deals on passes - often 10% off for booking before the start of the season BUT be aware that there is no such thing as a free lunch - if you get a 241 offer on passes you will be paying for it somewhere along the line... -)

Re:Book now for 2014 for good rates or wait for last minute deals?

I have to agree/disagree with skination. We have got 2-4-1 passes, and got exactly what we have paid for. This is the 4th year we have been with Skiworld, and the price we get makes sure we don't go elsewhere.

The no free lunch statement is correct, but loyalty does matter so lunch might just be reduced to make you eat (does this make any sense?).
