Was looking at this resort on WTSS - started to wonder why I did not opt for this resort - seems to have everyting.Fantastic for all abilities.I think I need to go here. Checked again and it does say pistes get busy. As southern France is on half term week the same as ours this year, maybe I should leave it until I can go outside school holidays.

ADH is a great place to ski, I've had 2 weeks there now and would go back again sometime.
It can get relatively busy at certain lifts in town, but theyre fast and queues get shifted quickly.
However, both times I've been in mad January so no schools about, and I have to say I'd hate to go here when its packed with people. It makes a huge difference being able to go outside any school holiday periods.

I think most places can get busy at certain places and at certain times.
Normally you can find quiet slopes and lifts if you venture out of the main town in every resort.

Re:Alp D'Huez looking quiet today

ADH is a great resort. We were there just after New Year and the crowds and queues were horrendous -e.g. 30 minute wait at Marmottes chair. Pistes were very busy and I got collected from behind by a black guy who "didn't see" me.

Still had great skiing though but the queues spoilt the fun a little. Would love to do it again during a quieter period.

One gripe is the quad chair that goes up from DMC to Signal is ridiculously slow. The button lift option is a below par alternative which I found very tedious and annoying.

Tonypants, i use these webcams and choose history.
You can then go back to last year and see what the conditions were like then.
Obviously this is no real indication of what this year will be like but interesting nevertheless.

http://alpedhuez.livecam360.com/bergers/flash/main.php

as high as adh is, it does suffer badly later season. If you get a snowy week you'll have a great time but you may find runs into resort get slushy and chopped up badly.
It's a great January resort,

Re:Alp D'Huez looking quiet today

It's France's sunniest resort so late season it can get a bit soggy. Snow coverage is usually still good but expect freeze/thaw conditions.

I Hate soggy spring skiing because you travel down from high up then as you reach the lower slopes you have to adapt to a completely different skiing style, of course this applies also to the time of day.

Frozen coudrouy to start
Nice snow for maybe 2 hrs ..
weird slushy stuff low down pm that goes brown in the sun.

Any advice on the comnplex of spring skiig is welcome

TP

I must riterate that mrs TP loves spring skiing because of the sun rays, she loves sunbathing on the top of a mountain bar with a cocktail in a bikini top, whilst wearing ski trousers and ski boots.

TP

there was this thread last march which inspired me to spring ski and I certainly had a good experience in Schladming (around 1900m) http://www.j2ski.com/ski-chat-forum/posts/list/12400.page
