Re:Ski Sunday

Saw it this evening - would NOT like to try the old wooden skis with leather boots... Mr Pitstop does remember something similar when he was a mere whippersnapper, on his first ski trip on top of a mountain in America, wearing leather boots and 3 pairs of school socks: his big step-sister (an accomplished skier) by way of instruction, pointed and said: 'It's down there' and skiied off.

This would have been in the 1960's and he says ski bindings were a tad more sophisticated than those on tonight's programme, but not much

Also watched the Super G on the red button this morning.

Chemmy was heading for a really good time on the downhill until her mistake towards the bottom of the course. Bet she was very frustrated. Promising signs though!!

Re:Ski Sunday

Great to have the show back. Graham B does a good job ~ he has improved a lot.

The thought came to me, as I watched Chemmy, ~ this feels the same as when I watched Martin, Graham and Konrad, all those years ago, two to three seconds seems a long way at those speeds. Not too far away from the top 15 though.

Errm,my first skis were wooden Elan Jets, screw in edges. Boots were double lace up, about an inch higher than those that GB wore!

There are those who might say, I haven't moved on much!

Just watched it on iplayer. Ed beating graham on skis, now that's funny!

Amazing how the kit has developed, which we all take for granted.

I have to say I found the footage of the freestyles absolutely amazing.

I watched a good bit of the Womens Super G on Eurosport. They were in St Anton and the piste was very scary even where I was sitting . It seemed to me to much more evil that usual. Those girls are amazing - making fairly smooth turns on an icy course with the slope falling away from them while travelling at speeds of 115kph

There were 15 DNF's which I am guessing is way more than usual. Chemmy skied reasonably well and seems to be recovering form. While she was back in 27th, at least she earned World Cup points for that finish which is very important in terms of rankings, start numbers, etc. :D

Is it me? Am I the only one who thinks that Ed Leigh looks like a, well, middle-aged trendie? That beanie would be a challenge to carry off on a 20-year-old. I thought my beanie was mildly embarrassing but his takes the biscuit. Or am I being ageist?

When shopping in Two Seasons just before Christmas, I picked up a very nice grey beanie and tried it on. Unfortunately my daughters fell about the shop in absolute horror. Apparently, I am far too old to wear such a thing. :(

Therefore I'm still stuck with my flappy eared trapper style hat, of the type that you might see in the film Deliverance.

His green baggy jacket was horrendous this week and whilst I prefer the more freestyle look to the traditional straight up and down skiing look, and I know hes a boarder, he reallty needs to stop pulling his trousers down to his hips and wearing silly loose hats.
And that beanie would look stupid on anyone, youre right.

I still wet myself when I listen to his boarder cross commentary from the olympics though.

Agreed, i think he dresses himself. I doubt anyone at the BBC has any idea of snowsport fashion and just trust ed to look after himself. Fair play to him though, many may think he looks an idiot but i'm sure many a few middle aged men would love to hang on to their youth.

GB simply has his sponsors, im sure his jackets were Nevica again this episode. Unless he was being paid i can't see why he would wear them.
