Ski apps. What should i get for my iPhone?

I searched on my iPhone for ski apps. Too many to go over. Who has the time? And I know if it is free, it will cost me down the road. What should I bother with? I am looking for apps that will help me improve my time, record data so I can see it on my computer, maybe even share my pictures and runs. I did get some advice: Ski Tracks, iTrailMap, Navionics, and Snowedge. Thanks to all who respond.

Re:Ski apps. What should i get for my iPhone?

I really enjoyed using ski trax last year, except it drained my iphone battery crazy. Nice google earth like view and easy to take pics and share.
But I haven't tried anything else so don't know if it would be same battery issue for all.
oh and for a not-so-techy person, it was really easy to use :)

Matt - I presume you meant AlpineReplay ????
Had a look at this for Android and it is quite interesting.
I had a quick look but not exhaustive to see if you can use wifi only to upload etc - thereby avoiding data sue. One thing I don't want is heavy data use when abroad (roaming turned off).
ski trax doesn't use data. but make sure you download it before you go unless you are on free wifi. I think there is a free and pay option and I have the pay option.
Re:Ski apps. What should i get for my iPhone?

I bought Ski Tracks for 69p, recommended by an instructor.

It's pretty cool. All the stats, speed, distance, no. runs, no. lifts, elevation. Plus it shows a neat map of the runs you've done, which if like me and have no clue what runs are called or where they go, is very useful explaining where you've been to others ;)

Re:Ski apps. What should i get for my iPhone?

+1 for ski tracks

GPS only and local data saving = no running cost.
Run by run breakdown in the 69p version - well worth it.
With data off I've had over 50% battery left at the end of the day (on an iphone!)

Not skiing specific but Photosynth is free and good for capturing the views!

Alpine replay looks like it could be good, might investigate.

Re:Ski apps. What should i get for my iPhone?

Ski tracks is the best i have used. The only issue i found was that all the guys in our group had it meaning a competition started to see who could break 50mph, then once that broke it was who could go fastest. Every 0.1mph counts.

Re:Ski apps. What should i get for my iPhone?

I agree about SkiTracks. It provides more stats & graphs than I reckon anyone could need or want. I didn't find it a drain on my battery at all, but with three of us running the app (mind you, I believe I am the only one with the paid version), we all got varying results from our end-of-day summaries.

Like Andy, there is much competition amongst us to produce the max speed on our selected schusses. I currently hold the record of 123.1kph set in Val Thorens this year, but I believe this is a little suspect as my colleagues were a full 15kph behind and I reckon there couldn't have been that much variation. Also, distance covered differed, tho' only by a small amount and runs/lifts didn't always match either. Even comparing app readings at mountain top departure points recorded different altitudes.

Still, for 69p it's a bit of fun and although interesting in examining (and arguing) over a beer or two, I'm not sure that it could, or should, be relied on for any great degree of accuracy.

I did buy both. skitracks - liked the preview of a run on 3D.
navionics - gotta love the resort maps, ski and snow reports, and driving directions to those resorts. Hopefully i will get to use them next week.

With so little snow last week, I used the Navionics app on my daughter snowtubing instead. It was nice to see her speed and elevation, plus i took photos and videos that are linked into the archives section of each run she made.
Now i see the app is on sale for only 99 cents on the app store.
