I am increasingly seeing people referring to Carre Neige on their posts. What is itvover and above normal insurance?

Technically nothing if you have good quality Travel Insurance which covers risks associated with skiing.
However.....
If in France:
It will get you off the hill if injured, without quibble over insurance.
It will get you off the hill without your skis being seized to ensure payment for services.
It will get you some medical treatment, if you need it.
It will get you repatriated, if your travel insurer fails to.

The levels of cover provided are quite low in some aspects. Read the small print.

If I find myself skiing in France, I will buy it by the day, just to avoid hassle.

I already have cover provided by my Travel Insurer and with Air Glaciers, but for French slopes avoiding the "non" is useful in the event of mishap when you are not at your best.

Icy, I should think you can buy the Carre Neige from the lift pass office when you get there. Even if you could buy it on its own on the internet now I don't suppose it would be worth it, if you've got a mean bank like mine, because you'd have to pay a fixed currency conversion charge for using your card. But if you pay in euros when you get there you won't have to.

I suppose you could send them an e-mail and ask them. I sent the Tignes lift people an e-mail about their lift passes and the carre neige and they were very helpful :)

As long as you have a receipt saying you've paid for the Carre Neige then you can wave it at the rescue/ambulance people (should it become necessary) and they'll agree to rescue you without stealing your skis or asking for the money in advance in cash ;)

I always book mine at the point of ordering my lift pass, it keeps the french happy 8)

Ally where did you order your lift pass from for Tignes? we will be there in 3 weeks how long does it normally take to come though the post?

I think they said allow 10 days for delivery outside France, and mine took about a week to come. It was most impressive because they'd sent it recorded delivery!

I suggest you have a careful look at all the different passes on offer. It can be quite bewildering! In the end I bought the Espace Killy one with the Tignes loyalty pass that costs 10 euros lasts 3 years and allows a discount every time you recharge the pass. I reckon because I'm ski-ing for 2 weeks in Tignes this year I will save 18 euros, and more if I go to Tignes again next year :)

They also have family passes, pedestrian passes, reduced ski area ones, and the one that Far Queue was asking about which gives a daily discount on lots of different resorts in the same area as Tignes.

can I just ask.... I thought CN is really for more adventurous off piste skiers, but is this the case? I would never stray off the edge of the piste (not intentionally anyway!) and I have only ski'd in austria but now I am reading this thread I am wondering if it is a necessary option? (I do have winter sports cover insurance already).

Is there a cost advantage when buying online?
How much does the carre neige cost? (Can't find out without signing in)

I tend to take it when in France for all the extra cost - it just saves so much hassle you don't need if you do have a bump.

One of our group last year didn't, had a tumble and had to get taken of the mountian. She got the money back on her insurance in the end, but for the cost of all those mobile calls from France and her time when she got back trying to sort it out..... would probably have been less hassle just to spend the few Euro extra.

The good news is that it was more injured pride and a few bruises than anything else, but could have been much worse.

(she was an early intermiediate on a blue at the time, poor light and chopped up at the end of the day).

I was just about to say it's 2.8 euros per day (as per my invoice from the lift people in Tignes). So, Google wasn't far wrong :wink:

I think it costs exactly the same if you buy it on the internet, as compared with buying it in resort.

I paid 22.4 euros for 8 days.

Ally G how do you add it to your lift pass I have tried to purchase our lift passes tonight but can not find an option to add it to them.

Hi MattSki,
I can't really remember how I did it. All I do know is that I started by registering with the Tignes liftpass website so I could log in, and I suppose the Carre Neige must have come up as an option and I clicked on it!

Thats NO jacket that is a retro onesie, very warm but not quite in fasion, The funny thing is I saw somebdy actually waring one in Sauze for real, I wore mine as a laugh for new year - the Movember i had in the picture.

Trying to find another comdy suit for Christmas day this year that isn't a santa suit.

Just had a read off the the Carre Neige web site and the cover you get seems good, anybody on hire had to make use of it??
